The Khan Rides to War

Anyone who picked up the Sept. White Dwarf would notice on page 19 that the White Scars are finally getting some HH attention due to be released on Sept. 21.

Anyone else have any information on this? It's really the first I've seen for attention to the White Scars. Considering they are one of the crucial players in the siege of Terra and the only White Scars character representation I have seen so far is a librarian speaking at the Council of Nikaea it's really a vague area that is in desperate need of clarification.

So any thoughts on how the Scars are going to be presented in heresy terms? Any thoughts on who will write it? Andy Hoare wrote some about them in 40k terms but he's yet to do any HH stuff.

Agreed on the time issue; they're long overdue.

One thing that I think will be touched upon early in any HH White Scars story is going to be their particular use of psychic powers. From the scraps that have been mentioned about the Khan so far it seems that he has the ability to call storms with all their shocking goodness.

That said, I think they're a tricky legion to write about. Most readers are going to be English or at least of European background and can't really relate to a Mongol horde in science fiction terms in the same way we could relate to, say, a space angel: i.e. the Blood Angels.

Also, in A Thousand Sons the Librarian at the Council of Nikaea did his entire speech without the use of articles. It's understandable that the authors would want to be true to Mongol cultural background but it would be a strange story if all its dialogue contained no "the" or "a/an"s.

I was excited that the White Scars are finally getting some HH attention and looked forward to reading it, then a lot of my enthusiasm went away when I saw that it's another Limited Edition novella... :)

My fluff junkie side is telling me I must get this, whereas my wallet and the more rational side of me is telling me to pass on this one. :P

edited for typos.

Yup, in the same boat and agree. I would have preferred something in the normal price range and something I could have electronically. For me, it may hinge on who authors the novella.

The author for this novella is Chris Wraight,I think this will be one hell of a good read :P

Ugh! I wish it were someone else...this makes it harder to resist.

Fortunately, the Black Library website (seems to) let me order in whichever currency I chose to, strangely enough... Although the USD price is $50, the prices in Canadian and Australian dollars are $69 and $70 respectively, which as of today amounts to $69.52 and $72.02 respectively...

I can't speak for the aussies, but I wish my government revamped their international trade laws so we wouldn't always get (one of) the short sticks like this...

This. I am of the opinion that they should not try to make the Scars more 'readable' as far as turning their character into one that appeals more to Europeans, or people of those backgrounds. That would seem like a cheap move to me. They're space-Mongolians, portray them as such.

$50? Going to pass on this. It'll appear in a short story collection in a year anyway.

no kidding

$50 for a book? This has to be an error. Has to be since it isn't even a full length book.

if they really think they can get $50 for a book then they are out of their minds

Oh, but they will. And it'll sell out, too. Even if you won't get it at that price, there's collectors and ebayers that'll snap it up lickity-split. All the other limited editions went pretty fast, and I see this one going quick too.

yea, it blows, and people who want to read the books but can justify dropping $50 bucks on it get shafted.

we'll wait "X" amount of years for it to be released in a collection, where we already know the story due to the internet, and then GW will bring out its latest paper crack story. rinse and repeat.

There is a good chance that a $30 version will also be sold.

in what reality is $30 spent on a novella a good deal?

thats more than a proper hardback novel.
