Armour types

Hey guys.

Been reading the Horus Heresy and it got me thinking about the different armour types from when the Space marines were first created to now? I know I've seen somewhere about different mks of armour, now what I wanted to know was can anyone tell me if this is true and when the mks existed. I really want to start modelling some lunar wolves and maybe Loken too.

Thanks

Joe

This should give you most of the information you need... As a quick rough and ready guide though, by the beginning of the heresy most legions were starting to received mk iv maximus armour to replace their mk ii crusade armour. If memory saves me correctly mk iii iron armour was still used in frontal assaults where mk ii armour was considered too light.

The mk v and mk vi designs were 'crash engineered' during the heresy as resources and materiel used in the manufacture of mk iv armour were lost. After the heresy the adepts of Mars attempted to distill the best features of all their knowledge of power armoured systems into a new easier to manufacture and maintain armour that still provided the best protection possible. This lead to the mk iii quilt armour. Later refinement of the mk vii lead to the development of mk viii errant armour.

Long story short if you want to model Loken and his brethren of the Luna Wolves as described in the Hours Heresy series then they'll be safest wearing mk iv maximus plate.

Hope that helps :)

James

Thanks for that info mate. I'm on the first book and need a little bit of help identifying the colour scheme etc of the lunar wolves any help there?

They're an off-white colour with green trim. I believe they're on the cover of False Gods.

(Btw, it's Luna Wolves, not Lunar. :) )
