Thanks for the replies. I might just leave one empty and the other one with the eye. Also, nice Futhark in the sig. Here's a random update, the dark vengeance models have insane detail so I'm still learning how to paint them as well as the pics suck, either too much light or too little. Now sure how to get it right.

yeah, its an amazing scupt, but way to much detail. I can hardly get my smallest brush in some of the spots and of course, I'm still learning to pick out the detail and make it stick out. I just wish I could figure out how GW's Eavy Metal team does their Black Legion models in the newest WD.

Hey, it looks pretty good to me, so don't beat yourself up too much ;) You are right when you say you are still learning, because even the best of us still grow in their skills and become better at their work. So enjoy the learning process now, you'll be doing it a lot more in the future :cuss

FINALLY! I found a way to paint gold that I'm happy with. I was always afraid that due to the flat black nature of the armor, I didn't want the gold to be too brilliant and stick out. So here's my newest work (still working on all the others, just moving from one project to another as a break) Put different lights on this so you can see it under different shades. Now....to highlight the gold trim and that part should be done.

Oh by the way.... the detail on the DV models are so small, I have to paint the model with a 40-0 brush pretty much.... This is going to take awhile.

Black Primer

Charcoal Grey Base

Fortress Grey Drybrush

Nuln Oil Wash-non diluted

Vallejo Old Gold (model not game)

Sepia Wash (non-diluted)

Nuln Oil Wash (non-diluted)

Both washes on the gold are very controlled in where they flow. More of a glaze and allowed to pool properly.

The detail became easier once I started using a smaller brush :D A 40-0 is what I used for most of the detail. Takes much longer, but keeps the model from getting blended and murky.

All I need to do on him is the two places where the Eye of Horus would go, and the backpack. Then if my bases ever get here....

Excellent painting, and that "Mawbrute" looks outright creepy! I was considering a black+gold color theme for when I eventually will paint my DV chaos models, but unsure because they'd end up so similar to templars (who feature gold and silver on black quite prominently). But your example makes the color scheme all the more appealing!
Generally Templars are Black and white with gold objects like symbols. So you dont have to worry about that

Well I use gold quite a bit, especially on my Marshal (as can be seen in my crappy thread). Also lots of silver - and black & silver is another chaos color combo I was considering. Of course there's also white on most other BT models, but even just the common black primary color between the two armies would make for a lack of variety in that sense, especially combined with the squad of BA Death Company I have planned for the future. Then again, black is the nicest base color, definitely nicer than red for example, so... :D

Sorry for the delay, schools been keeping me busy. Just wanted to pop in and say

Kudos to this guy's company http://www.secretweaponminiatures.co...cPath=79_30_60

I ordered those bases and got them about a week later. I'm pretty impressed and stoked to start these new bases on my black legion.

My first attempts at realistic water bases. I think they came out a little too thick, so I'm going to try adding washes instead of paints to the mix. If anyone has any advice or links to tutorials, they are greatly appreciated.
