Help! The White mist of DEATH

Recommended Posts

Was experimenting with a little Purity Seal spray today for the first time and yes, I suffered the dread white cloud on my drop pods about two minutes or so after I sprayed them.

Now, I have heard it said that the mist is a result of the air and the can storage being too cool, but my flat is a steady 17 - 20 degrees C at the moment, so probably not that, plus I had a spray booth going and also all windows open, so I don't think inadequate ventilation is the snag either. Equally, the test mini that I did 5 minutes before turned out fine - is it likely just that I was putting it on too thick?

Also, any way to repaint over the top of the mist reliably or is it a strip and redo job?

As an acrylic varnish, nail polish remover (acetone) ought to remove it. Acetone however can and will strip the paint and melt the plastic if you aren't careful! How thick was the coat you applied to the drop pods in comparison to the test mini? The only time I've had a problem with spray varnish was when I applied too much.

It happens easily in too hot, too cold, heavy coats or holding the can too far away or just for no reason whatsoever. Purity Seal is a fickle witch of a product.

Hit it with a satin finish clear coat spray. On extreme cases I have brushed on 'ard coat and then re-seal the next day.

STOP!! DONT DO ANYTHING!

1. You didnt shake it long enough or you used some kind of sealer and didn't let it cure all the way.

2. You can fix this. Get a bottle of Pledge with future floor care and generously wash the model with a brush and give it a nice coat. LET IT CURE FOR AT LEAST 30 HOURS! then you can vigorously shake your matte can again for at least 1.5 minutes and spray a LIGHT coat to fix it.

Sorry for the double post, not sure how to delete them on this forum as I'm still new to the system. Here is a model of mine. As of 2 days ago, he was frosted. I coated him in Pledge, gave him 24 hours to dry and dullcoated him again with testor's after shaking it. As you can see, he came out perfectly fine.

Now, this confuses me a tad because I don't even know what sealer is, and I shook the can for a good minute and a half (absent any instructions on the can I figured to go longer than a can of paint regardless). Nice Legionnaire, by the way.

Was the can empty? Or was it a specially humid day?

Full, fresh can bought in GW a week ago. As for humid, potentially.

Possible solution, link

Oho! Would you look at that? I think I know what's next to buy..... many thanks!

A sealer is like future floor wax, or army painter dips/resins. they need time to cure and if you dont give them time before you dullcoat, they can mist up. you also might have put too much dullcoat on it (I believe thats what the purity seal is)

By the way, micro flat is the same thing as future floor :)

Here you go, this is a great read for anyone wanting to learn to paint or improve on their skills
