Jupiter Forge
Greetings, My latest painting was me thinking "I want some other metallics... but I only have Gold, Bronze and Silver!". So I looked through the tutorials and came up with a lovely Metalic-Wash tutorial from a member called metcalfedan. Link here: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...howtopic=155396 So I thought "Let's do this!" and tried it out... and the miniature looks pretty good I think. Ok now, it doesn't look too metalic, and that's 100% my bad as I think I either used too many wash layers or not a shiny enough silver for the base as all I have is Chainmail. He didn't even come out actually metallic, the colours seem so dark that it's just patchy-purple, so I guess I'll have to water the wash down even more for further tries. He also has mould lines and all that, but this was made a long time ago and is just a test. I put the model together a while back and he's been in my "test something on him" pile for a while, so after this test one conundrum arose... I have no idea what he is. His parts are mainly Space Wolf with the SM Captain Chest but I painted him up as Leviathan Purple Wash with Bronze and Silver trimmings. So he's either a Soul Drinker or some form of Space Wolf Successor or Renegade (though if I remember doing anything SW Successor is "No no, their geneseed is too bad!")... so I've really no idea. To me he's just "My Purple Marine" at the moment. Anyone have any ideas? Let me know! 1) Here he is all Silver. 2) Washed. 3) Oops, forgot to take a picture of his actual wash stages... so here is is complete! 4) Bonus! You may have seen that he had a base. Well, you see... I've never based a model. I'm a disgrace. So I tried! This is what happened so I ripped him off the base before it became a complete mess and cleaned the sand from his poor feet. I will try again! --- I know it's a very simple paint job and there's no real "frills", but I'm just testing some techinques with my next few models, seeing if anything would work well or not. Thanks for looking! Comments, feedback and anything else welcome (especially what the heck IS he!?) Cheers, J.F. Captain Hwarang
He's a Soul Drinker. The model looks good. You're right, however, in that it doesn't look metallic. I'm not sure that's exactly what you were going for though, so it's all good. If you want metallic purple, the only options I can think of are using an NMM technique with high contrast, perhaps with liche purple as your base, with varying amounts of black and white. Or, you could use Vallejo Model Color Metallic Medium mixed with aforementioned purple in a 1:1 ratio. It could also be that your wash layers were too thick, not too many. There's nothing wrong with thinning down the washes for a more even coat. Finally, I think this model, and the apparent recipe, could benefit from some highlights. Even though you didn't use purple as your base coat, some bright purple highlights would look sharp. Same goes for the gold and rope. ANyway, it's a cool model, and it scream Soul Drinker to me. Paint him up a squad! -CH Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/259960-completed-purple-marine/#findComment-3163652 Share on other sites
