Well my brothers I picked up my copy of Dark Vengance today the chaos force will be added to my Night Lords while after alot of thinking I've decided that all the Dark Angel bits will go towards my new loyalist army.

So my brothers what do you think I know my painting skills suck but I'll take all the advice I can get.

Many thanks

Not a bad start, but your highlight strokes are waaaaay too thick. Come back in with the base coat and a small brush and reduce the thickness of those highlights. They're also a bit strong, so you might thin down some black paint or use one of the many available pre-made black washes out there and give the whole thing a couple of light coats to tone down the brightness of the highlights.

Black is one of the harder colors to paint, but it looks you're off to a decent start. With a clean up and some more practice, you can have some fabulous looking minis.

Edit: I think GW has sold out of them, but you might still be able to find some of the Angels of Vengeance decals from somewhere online. Also nice to see someone else having a go at the AoV. :)

I think your painting skills are fine, the only thing I'd say is that the black is dominating the model at the moment, it could do with a few splashes of colour here and there to break it up. Perhaps rather than using grey for the aquila a bone colour would be better to move it away from the grey of the highlights. You could also use the red on the belt buckle elsewhere, say on the power cables on the powerfist and plasma pistol or on the knuckles of the powerfist.

Lastly, and this is a personal preference so may not be up your street, but I always like to see the exhaust vents on the backpack painted in metallics, partly for fluffy reasons but mainly because it breaks up the vast expanse of the backpack nicely. I think the gun metal you've used on the plasma pistol would complement it nicely.

I agree with Dragon Claw. You're off to a great start with your painting and smoother highlighting will come easier the more you do it. I think you could benefit from some more spot colours as he said although I'd personally steer clear of red power cabling. The gunmetal on the backpack vents sounds like a good idea though.

Looking forward to seeing more of your work

James

@Brother Chaplain Kage Thanks for the advice I'll look for the transfer sheets btw really liking your AoV thread.

@Dragon Claw & Pig of Sparta Thanks for the advice I'll change the grey of the chest detail to bone and the exhaust vents will get a coat of gun metal too. I'm a little stuck when it comes to adding colour as AoV uses the Dark Angels pre heresy colour scheme. Maybe I could paint the shoulder trim In company colours?

Really appriceate the import thanks brothers.

The Unforgiven don't tend to use shoulder trims to denote company they use knee badges for those instead, if you look at the transfer sheet you'll see a few of them you could copy or hell make up your own design if you fancy. If you really wanted to paint the shoulder trims you could pass it off as embellishing the armour or perhaps as recognition for honours in a battle or some such. The old Dark Angels were also fairly big fans of black and white checks as well as the old red stripe over the helmet. Lastly if you're feeling up for a challenge they would sometimes paint swords onto their greaves(and every other place they could reach with a can of spray paint really) like in the pic below, so you could have a bash at freehanding as well.
