Blood Gorgons Color Scheme

Recommended Posts

Anybody know the color scheme of the Blood Gorgons? They are part of the Bastion Wars series of BL books by Henry Zou, none of which I've read.

Their entry on Lexicanum reads:

The Traitor Marines of this Renegade Chapter wear Power Armour the colour of burnt umber. Barnacles and fossilised organisms spread across the sweeping surface of each plate. There is an organic element to their regalia, accentuated by the mutant growth of dorsal fins, quills and hard, segmented shells.

Burnt Umber is kind of vague. I mean, it's a reddish brown color, and I think I've got that part down pretty good actually, but I'm having trouble with the metal. Silver? Gold? Does any one know for sure what color their metal trim is? Or can anyone at least tell from the cover of the novel? The image on the middle of this page is from the cover. Looks gold to me, I think, but it could just be reflecting the color of the armor/environment/etc.

Even if no one knows for sure, what do you think will look better with a brown color, gold or silver?

Thanks.

Personally, I'd try out Khorne Red as a base with a mixture of Khorne Red and Evil Suns Scarlet(It's actually a kind of bright, reddish-orange than an actual scarlet) to act as a highlight with a dark, orange wash to go over it and then just use Leadbelcher with Ogryn Flesh wash. Don't have a test model in front of me, but I do have the paints and those look like they'd go the best together for it.
Well, to me, it looks like silver in the picture, so I'm going to advocate that. Silver.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking about the picture as well. At first it looks like definitely gold, but then I realized there's orange fire in the bottom left corner, and that the metal is reflecting that. The metal trim on his left shoulder pad at the very top is pretty much nothing but silver.

So another vote for silver? I've actually basecoated the armor parts already, but thanks for the recipe nonetheless. I used a mix of VMC Cavalry brown, VMC Red, and VMC leather brown in a 2:1:1 ratio for the base coat. I used several glazes of a variety of oranges, reds, and browns, with some black and purple for good measure, to shade it. It's a bit more brown than what I've assumed your recipe looks like.

Thanks again, especially for replying so quickly.

Keep'em coming!
