caprera
Hi fellas, I hope this is the right spot to ask, otherwise sorry :D I'm planning to go for a true scale marines army - still no idea which one as i have too many preferences - but since my modelling abilities are limited i thought i could buy some time directly buying bigger miniatures and leaving the modelling to details and upgrades. I'm aware of the Chapter House Studios but that would be a good choice only for a limited number of models. Also they look quite contemporary and i wanted to give a mixed look spacing from MKIV to MKVI and maybe even further... Can you help me ? Rider-75
The only kits I've seen are the chapterhouse ones and not Keen on them myself. There's maybe others out there but I haven't found them. I know at one point Lamenter on here was doing or planning to do some casts of sculpts he'd done. Take a look over at his Masteroftheforge.com site and see what's happening. It was a combination of Lamenter, Apologist and Doghouse work that inspired me to get started on my true scalers. It's not as hard as you might think and with some patience and ingenuity you can come up with some good stuff. Take the plunge and have a go at following Lamenters tutorial to get you started - its easy to follow and my first marine was the captain type figure I did. I just adjusted and used a different front chest piece to cut down on some of the green stuff work. caprera
Thanks Rider i already knew that site but they no longer take on commissions. I see you started "my way" using termies' legs and going up with green stuff. That was my idea for the start as well... I think i can wait for another War Smiths to find a workaround for Geedoubleu greed while i give it a try. However if anybody else has a suggestion this thread is welcome :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/260130-true-scale-miniatures/#findComment-3165523 Share on other sites
Rider-75
One way of getting a cheaper spice of termy legs is the AoBR squad. I picked up one set for £6 on eBay :D Of course you then have to hack the back off the body but it's still cheap as chips. caprera
AoBR would be Assault on black reach ? Sorry i'm not so into 40K nicknames, i find difficulties when i read army lists with all those MM TAC MEQ ML ;) I'll have a look on Ebay then, Thanks again Rider nice help! space wolf
And don't forget some grey knight terminator sprues...its really hard to find left arms that aren't power fists otherwise. Although you can just bulk out tac squad arms.... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/260130-true-scale-miniatures/#findComment-3166188 Share on other sites
Rider-75
Left arm sources are pretty much either the sgt power sword arm, storm shield arms or grey knight arms. Yodhrin
I'll recommend the "bulk out tac squad arms" option over terminator ones, because they're filthy cheap on ebay bitz retailers. The bog-standard PA torsos and arms aren't that popular, and the bitz retailers have fecktons of them from all the dev squad boxes they buy to sell the heavy weapons, so you can usually find five torsos or five sets of arms for £1-2. The same is true for some types of PA heads, and most varieties of terminator legs are around £1 depending on which e-tailer you use. By using bitz sites, and watching for occasional bargains/clearances on backpacks, bolters, and termie shoulderpads, you can get all the plastic components necessary to follow the Lamenter methodology for about £10-12 for five, meaning you either get ten truescale marines for the price of a five-man terminator squad from GW, or you have a few quid left over to order some of the more expensive unique or FW bitz to spice your models up a little. I don't know what the rules are about linking to retailers, but if you want links to the three ebay stores I use just shoot me a PM. caprera
Thanks Yodhrin, but i think i will have to go over with some GS anyway but after finding a good modelling tool. As now i'm using a, let's say "scalpel", inherited from house bits  quite precise i must say but hates to give you smooth surfaces even adding a little more water. About the arms, problem is that Termie ones are bulky enough but difficult to adapt, anyway useless after three models. One of the reasons i'm going for this is making each Astartes a unique character. Normal SMs tend to be a little smaller than they should. I don't know if many others have the same impression but i'd go for the second option and cover some spots with GS. Anyway i wonder if i could get into rules issues and annoying debates because of the size. Do you think could be harder to justify some cover saves ? Afterall these are all terminators now... Olis
My advice to you, brother, on the subject of smooth surfaces, is to get a set of silicon clay shapers. Very, very useful tools in that regard. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/260130-true-scale-miniatures/#findComment-3166500 Share on other sites
