Hannibal.Lictor
So I have a very competitive league, one of our guys just got 3rd at Nova, so I get the crap knocked out of me alot. In 5th I was a BA Dante DoA list, and have now converted to a Space Wolves with BA ally list. Doing much much better now. 2k points is our median size and my ally is basically a Libby, 5 man assault and a Stormraven. If SWs got the Talon, I wouldnt run BA, although Blood Lance and DoA are sweet on that back field armor BS. I only bring this up so you can factor that in when I talk about the rest of my list. Its crazy but works, and as I become a better player its working better. I run Logan and Njal in a 10 man WG unit. Seven of the WG have TDA and 2 cyclones. The three remaining guys have plasma pistols. I Tank Hunter my unit for the first and second rounds most of the time and drop armor. Then I go Prefered Enemy when I close in on CC, helps with those Gets Hot rolls and gives me a few extra sixes sometimes. Its those sixes that I am looking for as WG get precision shots. Njal Living lightings the crap out stuff or JotWW Crons/IG. Its an expensive unit but they can cap and do alot of destruction. I also had 2 GH then mans with dual plasma. I am gonna try one and a 5 man WG in a razorback with plasma pistols this week. My remaining points I dump into 3 LWs with the normal loadout and 2 pets. I have been running them out front of everybody with the pets lingering right behind them. The take the obvious targets: dreads, tanks, MCs, and HS usints. With the wolves and new rules you can get one hell of a movement phase. I stair step the wolves right before a charge in front of the LW. Barring overwatch stupidity you can get close to a 12 inch move before the charge. I find they get a rediculous amount of fire and can take it on the chin. The pets can also Look Out Sir the AP 1/2 stuff. That five man WG unit and GH target terminators if present and cap stuff. I run the Stormraven with LasCans and help mitigate the 2+ stuff. Its also a great AA unit. I tend to drop my Libby/assault dudes (liby has JP) somewhere deep in enemy territory, oh the sarge has a inferno pistol and one dude has a plasma gun; might go melta, jury is out on that. I think its pretty obvious how I use them. If the other guy has a ton of armor its Blood Lance/Might, otherwise I like psychic scream. Njal is nasty as a dirty toilet. That Lord of Storms thing is hilarious, just dont forget to use it. I love the tornado thing on vendettas/stormravens. Lowering BS and all the other stuff helps alot, and his 3 up denial at 24 inches cant be beat. He still nulifies ANY psychic skill on a 3 up. This is huge, I have shut down GK so many times and their lame crap divination/psyrounds. Logan rarely gets challenged, I tend to get a few 6's with all those shots and I put them on ICs most of the time, that or plasma/melta pukes. Its a model light list, but I find that the survivability is top notch. The power weapon changes have made TDA sweet. Oh one last thing, 2 of my TDA guys have axes. On the charge with Logans Lord thingie I have 15 AP 2 dice, 20 AP3, 5 AP4, and 15 normal dice (provided no one is dead). Oh and the I5 S3 cheese...really it gets me one wound or so a game....whatevs. I find that the weight of dice from I4 stuff aften nets me a few termie kills before the thunderhammer wrath of I1. I have a few questions: 1) An I better served with putting the WG five man in a Pod? 2) Would TWC be better than my lone wolves? 3) back to that 5 man, do I upgrade one to TDA, dump the razorback and take another cyclone or asscan? I know that long fangs are absent from my list. I find that with the cyclones I am doing well vs armor and I tend to be locked in CC by turn 3 and when I do have them they are back field drinking beer and watching the show. Plus I find a long fang list boring to play to be frank. Personally I think 6th ed just came out and some other variations will find some more play time. Is there something I am not thinking of? 7 Mile
I play a single squad of fangs, 2 5 man squads of tda WG on foot for the back field objectives and 3 squads GH screaming down in drop pods. Still fitting 3 Twolves, aegis line, and Term rune priest for anti psycher/support. Using logan for now, kind of want to try Njal and cut logan and the runepriest. Njal's abilities work well for pulling flyers out of the sky with tornados ;) So far so good, I love drop pods.
