War Angel
Ive got three completely built drop pods. I know it's going to be harder, but exactly how much harder is it going to be to to paint and prime it? Would it be worth taking apart the top portion? (another semi difficult task) Thanks for comments Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/260226-question-on-priming-and-painting-drop-pods/ Share on other sites
Razblood
If you really want them able to open then yes, it would be advised that you pop off the thruster and at least one of the stabilizing fins otherwise you'll have no chance of getting at the interior. Or you can do what I plan on doing with the next 3 I buy and just glue the doors shut and leave the thruster removable to show what weapon each one has  I hated painting my drop pod and refuse to do another one with painted interior ever again! Best of luck with yours ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/260226-question-on-priming-and-painting-drop-pods/#findComment-3166619 Share on other sites
Isador Sotho
I found it rather difficult to paint a fully build drop pod, especially on the inside. As I wasn't happy with the result at all I started searching for a way to do it more easy and convenient. During this search I ended up with this really nice article: The definitive guide to building and magnetizing a Space Marine Drop pod On the bottom of the article you'll find a link to the next step: Painting  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/260226-question-on-priming-and-painting-drop-pods/#findComment-3166637 Share on other sites
War Angel
Thanks for the link and decision. I've built a number of drop pods and have assembled all of them completely, with the doors left openable. A spraying can paints the entire insides quite nicely, and the doors give plenty of access to get a paintbrush too. Gurth
No, sorry. I have to admit I didn't do much more than spray-and-drybrush, given that two of the three are Deathstorm pods but IMHO the open doors leave enough room to get a brush to the central console. pueriexdeus
I am searching for re-entry painting advice for these ten aftermarket Drop Pods. Linky Since they will be painted mostly Black, the black soot/burn effect is not an option. Any ideas will be useful. Gurth
I've always supposed a lot of the paint will burn off drop pods on re-entry. For this reason, I painted mine with a metallic-coloured underside, the metal streaking up the sides. I then weathered this a bit to look like metal that's been heated and had paint burn off it, largely by applying some washes of thinned-down black and blue GW inks. PaganLinuxGeek
I've one drop pod assembled and painted. I did NOT install the center console as I originally planned to make it removable as either infantry, dreadnought, or perhaps later deathstorm drop pod. Now I have 2 more in the post and I am wondering if anyone has managed to make a convertible drop pod. The biggest issue I've had is the center console and harness assembly is too wide to fit between the "fins". I did airbrush the first drop pod fully assembled and found that the internal area can be accessed well enough. I did notice a link to a deathstorm pod in this thread and will have to explore that further. I would add for those reading this PRIOR to assembly, that you should take a file (or better yet: an emery board as it flexes!) to the bottom of each door so it is smooth and provides better clearance with the floor of the pod so they close smoothly.
