So I looked and saw my last real posts were from 2008 and I realized, wow... I really have been out of the loop. I like 6th Edition and I'm excited that the new starter set included DA models. So to Redeem myself for my lack of participation in oh... 4 years... I joined The Shadow Guard's Path to Redemption challenge. So without further ado... here is the start of my WIP and the below is for September:

Here are my sprues from the new DV set and the custom bases I'll be putting the new DA's on

Next we have just the squad clipped and ready for clean up (filing, cutting, green stuff if needed, etc)

Finally I cleaned up two models and primed them black and white as I wanted to do a test model with each color to see which one supports my paint scheme better. I usually go with white as it's easier to see the details, but I've been reading and seeing what a black undercoat will give people as well.

That's it for the time being. Not a lot done except prep work. I also cleaned and primed the bases, but I want to save those for the final product to get the overall look and feel to the mini's. I have hobby night planned with a couple friends this evening (hopefully every Thursday) and should have some paint on them this evening and then I'll know what undercoat to go with.

See you all soon.

So finished my first vow. Not too bad for having not painted in years. Not totally happy with it, but I realize I'm out of practice by quite a bit.

I also need a better camera. Tried taking a pic with my cellphone and it doesn't work too well. I'll have to take a look this payday or next at getting a decent one that also does macro settings.

Need to also take more pictures next time so I can put something here other then before and done.

Thank Brother Kovash,

I have found a camera for my next Vow that I should be getting on Friday (payday). Not a great thing, but should be good to go, I'll also take some better pictures of these guys at that time too. :) I found that the robed helmeted head from the upgrade sprue actually works fairly well. The only real problem was the socket for the head was a little deeper then "normal" So I had to fiddle with it a little to make it look right on the body. Other then that turned out well. I'm enjoying myself again and that's the main thing. Hopefully my skills will return to what they were and go beyond.

So I'm thinking of doing a big push in November, I have vacation I need to use or lose it. So I'm taking quite a few days off including all of Thanksgiving week. So what should I work on to start with? Here's my list of unassembled/needs work on stuff:

A Tactical Squad from the DV set

2 Terminator Squads from the DV set

2 Ravenwing Squads from the DV set

2 Librarians from the DV set

2 Masters from the DV set

1 Inq-Chaplain from the DV set

1 Ravenwing battleforce that needs patching and assembling (6 bikes, Assault bike and Land Speeder)

Deathwing squad and Belial conversion needing rebasing

2 Land Speeders

1 Predator

1 Rhino

2 Assembled but not primed Land Raiders

1 unit of 5 Scouts with sniper rifles

Any input?

Hahaha! Phew. I was seriously worried for you!

Well, since the point of this path of redemption stuff is to complete things you need to work on, why not try to fill out the minimum Force Chart rquirements with a second tactical squad? So then you'll have your 1 HQ and 2 Troops painted and ready for battle.

Alternatively, go with Belial and his command squad, which will net you 2 HQs and 2 Troops painted.

Well since you guys are the only ones that chimed in, I'm going to do the second DV tactical squad and the ravenwing Battleforce. That way I have the 2 troop choices, HQ and a fast attack assortment. Going to put up pics after I get home from work.

So here we are, my vow before I start work on them.

The DV squads needs full loving... still on the Sprue.

If you can tell by the picture the Ravenwing needs work. It's assembled and some has been somewhat painted, it still needs work. Heck the Sgt's Power Sword needs to be replaced because sweet little kittens decided it was a chew toy... So got some work there. Hopefully I'll burn through these and remember to take some pics as I paint and can do another vow this month.

Welp got this finished in time... but not happy with the pics. I really need to either a) sit down and do some tests with the Macro settings of my camera or just go back to the cheap digital camera. What I have is really good for single point of focus as you can see, but I want to show more. Anyway here are some completed pics:

And I just realized looking at the picture that I missed the hem work on the sergeant for the tac squad... I'll have to fix that tonight.

So now I have to think about what to do for December. Maybe start with a pair of Rhinos for the tac squads. Right now I have a codex legal list and just need to work on expanding it. Maybe some scout snipers or even a command squad for my Company Master. Thoughts?
