Grotsmasha
Quick question, how similar is the winged sword emblem on these and the DV guys? Cheers, Jono Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/260494-wip-path-of-redemption-vows/#findComment-3169835 Share on other sites
Bryan Blaire
Grotsmasha, the emblems are almost identical. There may be a very slight difference in the depth of the icon, but it is almost imperceptible. SPWolf12
Correct... It is identicaln really hard to tell, if you can even tell at all. I will post the rest of the squad by Tuesday so you can see. SPWolf12
Here is an update. Pic 1 has half the squad already undercoated and ready for painting. . Pic 2 has a marine already painted and ready for shading. Bryan Blaire
SPWolf12, they are lookin' sharp so far. What are you going to shade them with? My suggestion: if you aren't drilling out your barrels, make sure to paint a centered black spot almost out to the edges of the barrel and either paint the flash holes on the sides of the barrel and the ejection port in black or let a black shade dry pretty dark in there. It will "fake" the appearance that the barrel is open and the ejection port depth. My personal preference is to paint the ejection port deflector in the barrel color (although the weapon body color also works). Very nice work on the soft armor! I can't stand painting the ribbed stuff in the joints. Let's see some more! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/260494-wip-path-of-redemption-vows/#findComment-3172208 Share on other sites
SPWolf12
Thanks I am glad you like it. I am thinking of shadding with Nuln Oil or Agrax Earthshade, I am not sure yet. Thanks for the suggestion on the bolt. I am actually thinking of drilling them out, probably tomorrow. Bryan Blaire
Not to be a jerk and shamelessly self-promote, but if you haven't worked with the new paints too much and are wondering what the two different shades might result in, I worked out different ways to use the new paints and shades: Old vs. New Paint Comparison Thread My suggestion: shade the metals and green with Nuln Oil, shade the bone with Agrax Earthshade, and if you can invest it, use Carroburg Crimson over the red. Good luck on the drilling, slow and steady! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/260494-wip-path-of-redemption-vows/#findComment-3172378 Share on other sites

lhg033
they've come out pretty well - pesonally not a fan of the shineyness but thats personal taste. you could try dullcoat varnish on them to take the sheen off or even a wash of lahiman medium may work though not being so glossy will affect the OSL highlights Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/260494-wip-path-of-redemption-vows/#findComment-3189751 Share on other sites
SPWolf12
I have tried the anti-shine spray and the lahiman medium before and I just don't like how it looks on them. I like the shinny stuff :D . Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/260494-wip-path-of-redemption-vows/#findComment-3189763 Share on other sites

Wraithwing
Wow, they look really good. I've not seen Dark Angels done with Quickshade before (I'm assuming that's what you've used?), and they look good. Did you use Dark tone on them? Cheers, WW Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/260494-wip-path-of-redemption-vows/#findComment-3189830 Share on other sites
SPWolf12
It is dark tone. I was debating whether to use that or the regular shades for GW, I tried a few combination on other models and with that specific shade of green and I liked how QS looks on them. I like the look it gives the guns, weapons, armor and gold pieces; however, I am not that fond of what it does to faces and white.
