wolf363839
Just picked up a Bastion today. Very cool looking model, but as I'm building it I came up with some game questions. Basically, how much can I customize the building? I didn't attach the upper part of the building from the lower section, which means I can position the door to face multiple directions (it makes a difference because there are more fire points on some sides). When I deploy the building it will allow me to face the door in an optional direction to disembark and still give me maximum fields of fire. Also, the four heavy bolters come with hatches that I can put instead of the guns. Can I customize some pintel mounted heavy bolters to put up on the battlements? This would give my LF's more fire points while staying protected inside the building. The heavy bolters come with the Bastion when you purchase it for 75 pts. Lastly, the rules say that two models can fire out of each firepoint and it basically works like a vehicle's firepoints. However, does this mean that any model can shoot out of any firepoint without counting as moving? (as long as they aren't moving up to the battlements obviously) From a real-world perspective I'm ok with this because in a prepared position you always have primary, secondary, and alternate fighting positions. Just want to make sure this is ok from the rules. I want to see what the fang thinks about all this so there aren't any surprises rule-wise when/if I deploy this thing. Grey Mage
Customize to your hearts content. The official model is just an example.... I personally suggest the Mordheim sprue- it has nice fancy wolf cloaks, battered old shields and axes.... lots of good bitz. Wulfebane
When you say model to your hearts content... are there any parameters set for purchased battlements? Like, the standard atm is an Aegis Defense Line. What restrictions are there to, say, extending the provided reinforced walls up a scratchbuilt hill or take half of the walls to put on one side of the table, and half on the other? For the OP's choice of Bastion, what's keeping him from putting all four walls in a line, making a siege wall, and/or bracketing them with columns of stone as though they were walled up in a mountain valley in Asaheim? Is there a square cubic volume limit to these new defenses? Height limits? Additional conversion limits? I don't mean tacking on another 75 lasguns, but more like say, stacking the walls on top of each other, etc. Are things like additional structures via styrofoam or other building materials allowed to augment the general shape of what the defense structure protects? Grey Mage
There is a limit on Aegis lines- you get a line, so they all have to be in a line of some sort, not spread around. As long as its a single model, Its pretty much good to go on bastions IMHO- until your opponents declare you to be absurd. Anything with roughly the same size as any shown planetstrike bastion should be good to go. MeatGrinder
I am being very specific with my measurements for all my new fortifications. I'm taking measurements from the old ones in order to build my own. Just so I don't get jumped on during a game. Arez
how wide are the Aegis defense line blocks? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/260651-bastion/#findComment-3172125 Share on other sites
wolf363839
Here's what I'm modeling so far. The heavy bolters are magnetized and the lower wide base separates from the upper. You can also see the exposed firepoint where the heavy bolters normally go. Legal or unsportsmanlike? http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae39/phil363839/2012-09-10_20-36-49_6611.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/260651-bastion/#findComment-3172462 Share on other sites
Khine
i think it looks a better with the exposed fire points. I'm not quite sure about the HBs on the top corners like that though. As to the legitimacy of it. I'd say fair game, but just make sure you only fire out of as many fire points per side as you would have on a standard bastion. Otherwise it could very well be taken as unsportsmanlike. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/260651-bastion/#findComment-3172474 Share on other sites
wolf363839
Well that was my original question. Can I pull back the hvy bolters in favor of my LF's firing out of those firepoints. If that means I can't shoot the heavy bolters, then I'm cool with that (they're magnetized after all). But there are so few good firepoints that I'd like to be able to use those ports for my shooters. Also, the model itself comes with doors/hatches to put in place of the heavy bolters. To me that seals the deal from a game perspective. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/260651-bastion/#findComment-3172526 Share on other sites
