Swiftclaws

Getting ready to build and paint my Swiftclaws and am looking for thoughts and suggestions...

What I am looking at currently is a 3 man unit including an attack bike, with a WGPL, led by a Wolf priest (for a total of 5 bikes). The WGPL has a Frost axe and combi-plas, the AB has the Multi melta, and 1 of the other Swiftclaws has a Melta. My concern comes in with the WGPL and the choice of Spec wep for the Swiftclaw, and I am open for suggestions.

The rest of the list is pretty much a foot slogging Redmaw outflanking list, with two LF ML units, another WP and a RP, with GH's as the troop choices. If anyone wants me to post the full list, I can.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts, suggestions, and comments....

Never used swift claws although I used to run a bike list fwiw. I would want the unit to be quite a bit bigger (say 8+ab)especially since they are pretty cheap and hard hitting but I understand models are probably a factor. If this is not the case then id say lose the wgpl since he costs over 2 sc bikers but has half the cc punch/bolterfire. Then buff the unit to 8-10 strong.

IME bs3 melta is unreliable but you try it anyway and often end up in charge/doubletap range over 2 missed shots. I would say the meltas are worth it if the unit is large due to converse cost of MBs. Otoh meltabombs at the current unit size are similarly costed to those guns while hitting on 3s and would allow you to put wounds on that attack bike with less concern if you kept it a 30 pt model.. just some thoughts.

Another option could be to take another Space Marine chapter as allies, and use their bikes instead, since they have better WS/BS compared to the swift-claws, altho' most of them have one or two less attacks on the charge..

Its something to consider, if you could find Troops/HQ choices from another chapter that fits what you are doing

I use 4 bikes with a fist, melta, attack bike with melta, and a wg with fist and combimelta. If I have the points I like to have a wgbl or wp with them. They hit hard and fast, but you need to have them doing a certain role. Mine support my pods as they come down.

@ Gaffy Not gonna do allies as of yet, but thanks for the suggestion there

@Brom Yeah I can get two for one if I drop the WGPL, which is something I had considered, which would bring me up to a total of 6 in the squad.

@Wulfebane Hence the Wolf Priest running with them for rerolls...BS does suck on anything except flamers, which were/are a consideration I had.

@Meatgrinder I'll be using them as a suppoer/distraction unit, as I will be having two units of GH and Bran Redmaw with some Fen Wolves coming in BEL, using SoH and Redmaws "Patient Hunter" SR. Depending on points I also may be drop podding a dred as well.

Thanks for the quick responses and please keep them coming. I need to hear lots of pros and cons to help me decide ;)

The way I will try to run my Swiftclaws in my next game is with a wolflord hanging out with them, but my unit is built with 5 swiftclaws, wolflord, with TH (still have't found rules preventing him going with bike, TH and SS, but I feel that he might get a bit expensive and it feels kind of against how it is intended to be) and an attack bike. The AB has a heavy bolter and one of the BC have a flamer, but then again I am going to fight orks so flamers are always good. :(

I can tell you have it went after the game.

@Captain Fabian: Rules for Brawn is in Imperial Armoir 11.

I agree with dropping the WGPL and just going with the wolf priest. A wolf priest pretty much negates the lowered BS/WS of any of the "claw" packs so is pretty much a required option. In addition, his crozius now classed as a power maul has concussive which will be able to knock initiative down on models he wounds but does not kill which can then help out with the Blood Claws special ccw.

Sorry if I ruin it for the OP but since when do we have a legit Bran Redmaw character and where?

Those I game with do not have an aversion to Forge World like some seem to ;)

Imperial Armour 11: Doom of Mymeara has the official rules for him.

That's what I was thinking as well, so most likely I will drop the WGPL for another biker or two and use the WP to help their skill. I still have a couple days before I start on them, so I'll keep looking back for more opinions and suggestions here before I start.

Thanks!

Oh man, can't wait to see these guys painted.

I like your paintjobs, brother! Post pictures!

Thanks!

I definitely will. Just finishing up the new version of the Redmaw ( the Hordes warpwolf version, think I'll keep the older, smaller version as the start of my 13th company wulfen), then I have my Longfangs to finish, then my Swiftclaws get started on. So I am guessing Thursday or Friday I'll be starting them. I'll post pics of the Redmaw and the Long Fangs as I finish them as well...

Oh...finally got the Runic Mountain bases from Secret Weapon Miniatures, so I have been rebasing them as well....just need to add some stuff to them to finish them up...pics of that will go up as well...
