Nemesis Greatsword + Quicksilver

People have already commented at length about how effective Dreadknights are in 6th (i.e. S10, AP2 attacks at initiative) and now even more so with the recent FAQ on Nemesis Greatswords (still strike at S10 and 4 attacks base, with re-rolls to hit and wound/penetrate).

Given that a Dreadknight is WS5 and is a character, plus is T6 and has 2+/5++ save, it can challenge and truly be a threat to even the toughest enemy Heroes. The only weakness in its role as the ultimate Challenge Warrior is its "average" initiative of 4 (still good enough to strike before almost anything that has an AP2 melee weapon). Against top-tier characters like Mephiston, Hive Tyrants, Abbadon, etc., all who have both high strength and high initiative weapons, this can be a great disadvantage.

To compensate for his, GK players can use Quicksilver, cast by one of their Librarians, on a nearby Dreadknight. Striking at I10, a Dreadknight on the charge does an initial Hammer of Wrath attack, then gets 5 S10, AP2 hits. With the re-rolls from the Great Sword, on average a charging Dreadknight will inflict 3.64 AP2 wounds before its opponent can strike back (unless the Hive Tyrant has Lash Whips, for example). With Ld 10, their is a high chance of activating his force weapon, which will take care of anyone without EW or strong psychic defense (i.e. Tyranids, SWs, Eldar). Bottom line is, for only around 160 points, GKs can get one of the best character killers in the game, especially if backed up by a Librarian with Quicksilver. If you are going against vehicles, just use Might of Titan and you are almost guaranteed to get multiple penetrating hits, even on a Land Raider.

the DK is not a character, it is a MC and therefor cannot be in a challenge

Actually page 410. Lists unit type as MC (ch). So it can issue and be issued challenges. There are several Mcs that are characters actually.

well, be4 the FAQ they went first as our group decided that they where "unusual power weapons" so they struck at normal I and where AP3 as the codex had them in the "unusual power weapons" category but after FAQ we changed it so pre-FAQ he went first but i did't know that i could challenge them >^_^
