New Dark Angels artwork

This is pretty much how I always imagined Masters, Veteran Sergeants, and Company Veterans of the Battle and Reserve Companies to look like.

My only real wish would be for all three to have those open-chested robes like the middle design... but I also get that the first and third figure are the same individual from different cover designs... and that not all of the depicted Dark Angels should look the same. Beyond that, I love the heraldic devices and other motifs!

Thoughts?

Are they the images from the Ascension of Balthasar audio CD?

#1 ??

#2 Attias the Untamed

#3 Master Zadakiel of the 5th Company

All extremely dynamic. The style is very, metallic, with lots of reflective surfaces and bright highlights. Attias looks very menacing.

Cheers

Pretty damned good pictures, I'd say but that sword in the first picture irks me. It stands out waaay too much. It seems to be far more clearly defined than anything else in the picture. It appears as if it shouldn't be there.

Sorry, covers for what, from where?

From a Dark Angel design point of view they're great but they don't work for me as illustrations. The first one feels unfinished due the vastly inconsistent colours and I can't tell how the second guy's right arm is supposed to fit together. The third one's alright but I'm not a fan of the 'take a photo of somebody posing then paint over the top' style.

If they're by Jon Sullivan then it's the artwork used in the CD package of Black Library's Ascension of Balthasar audio story.

The first I have no idea where it is from. It appears to be a third company Master but other than that - not a clue... Where did you get it from?

The second is Attias the Untamed - the Fallen from the Ascension of Balthasar... He's got the metal face with augmenticc eyes and a sword that rocks! He's currently my wallpaper in my office computer!

The third is Zadakiel Master of the 5th (again from The Ascension of Balthasar) holding the Fellbane, a Heavenfall blade.

The Acsecion of Balthazar is the audio drama that introduces Balthazar of DV fame as well as Kranon. The Dark Vengeance novella follows the events of the audio drama.

The first piece is a SW that somebody added DA bits to.

The others look familiar as well. So somebody is photo editing already established works.

Aha. That would explain the disparity between the wielder and the sword, then. Admittedly, it's not a bad artistic conversion (besides the weapon balls-up).

The others are original work that came with the Ascension of Balthazar. The first one has a cunning similarty with the artwork you linked... Maybe its a metaphor considering Reparation?

The first and the third are both the same individual. The first looks unfinished because it was a study - as opposed to a finished piece.

The source was Jon Sullivan's Facebook.

EDIT: Attias! Now I know which character Mike Lee was referencing when he said he was happy C.Z. Dunn kept at least one of the characters from "Fallen Angels" (and "Descent of Angels") alive!

The first one: what the :cuss am I looking at? I guess it's forgiven if it's a study with random crap spliced into the background (the figure's okay, it's everything else that's bothering me!)

Second one: Cool design. Wish the hood weren't randomly blurry. I guess this is his style, where everything has motion blur, even if it's stationary. I really have no idea what's up with his right hand and his storm? bolter though, the fingers don't match up and the bolter casing doesn't make any sense. The purity seal really doesn't sit right either.

Third is definitely the best-done, IMO, though the seals still don't sit right and the sword hilt seems way too bright and doesn't seem like the perspective works.

Yet I still wanna see more

Same artist but not the same pic. Too much stuff is different for it to be a simple edit job. Possibly a similar doll-frame for the Marine but plenty of other stuff (like the hands) have been shifted for it to be a photo-edit.
