Bearingtheword
Lemme back up a step since I may have been confusing. Flamer free pg 10 pp 15 =25 pts, vs 2 pg =10 pts. That's what I meant. Another option would be 2 flamers in the OBEL unit, both free, and double pg for 10 total on the normal outflanking unit since they won't be nearly as close as OBEL would allow. Now that might work very well since the pack led by the WP has Saga of the Hunter (Outflank and stealth) and the pack with the RP are using Bran's Patient Hunter SR (Which gives a GH pack the Infiltrate and Behind Enemy Lines SR's just like Wolf Scouts). Looking at Bran's other rules he also has SoH, altough it says that "Bran's Saga of the Hunter gives him the Stealth special rule (+1 cover save). He (and any Fenrisian wolves he is leading) may enter the table from reserve using the Outflank special rules." What I'm wondering is, does his SoH work differently in that it only applies to him and Fen wolves? or is it like the reg SoH where it could be applied to a unit (other than just Fen wolves)? or, which I'm thinking is the case, is it just saying that it applies to Fen wolves as well as any other packs he may be leading (as it normally couldn't be extended to non-infantry types? I'm not finding anything in his rules stating that he is anything other than a typical Independent Character.....Did I miss anything? Thoughts? Thanks again! ~BtW Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/260895-long-fangs-or-grey-hunters/page/2/#findComment-3176850 Share on other sites
Brom MKIV
Bran has saga of the hunter with all the same benefits and restrictions, IMO your correct in thinkning that the reference to fen wolves is simply due to the rules written for a former edition. Personally I plan on using redmaw to outflank with grey hunters leaving my thunderlord to join the i5 fen wolves. Elazar The Glorified
As much as I'd like to believe he can Outflank with a unit of Grey Hunters I think that when you take into account that Codex trumps rulebook that unless they FAQ it otherwise it seems to me that it's stating that he can outflank with a unit of Fenrisian Wolves and nothing else. But I'd like to be wrong - I'd love to have a full on ambush party with a pack of Grey Hunters arriving on each flank, a pack of Grey Hunters arriving behind the enemy and another pack of Grey Hunters and a pack of Wolf Guard advancing from the front at top speed whilst a couple of packs of Long Fangs pelt the enemy with Frag and Krak missiles! Brom MKIV
Lets see what others think, here for reference is the pertinent wording "Saga of the Hunter: Bran's Saga of the Hunter gives him the Stealth special rule (+1 cover save). He (and any Fenrisian wolves he is leading) may enter the table from Reserve using the Outflank special rules." In addition, under brans special rules it simply lists saga of the hunter. IMO the fen wolves reference was an added bonus from 5th edition when he otherwise couldnt have outflanked that unit, more to fit his fluff, while all the rules for saga of the hunter still apply. Basically the difference is that a single model with outflank now confers it to any unit joined (making the language redundant), whereas before the entire unit needed the special rule or in brans case the additional language in order to allow fen wolves to outflank. Thoughts? FYI my group is interpreting it as above.
