Sume's Sister of Battle

Sume

All right, I got the sisters of battle models today. It is a rather large lot. I have a lot of model stripping to do. Unless I want to use my old colors of black armor, and red robes. As this is most of my old sisters of battle army. I plan to instead do the white armor, red robes. With gold trim on units like seraphim, and celestians. Looks like I will want to add one more multi melta, 7 melta guns, a canoess, st celestine, jacobus, repentia, serphaim superior (or convert my own) and a battle enclave to this army.

If it is ok to do so. I would like to add pictures to this and have a paint blog. Unless it is in the wrong section. Let me know where to put that.

Now I have a question if someone can help me out. My 6 immolaters are all set up to be immolators. They do no not have the dome part that I remeber seeing on the sisters rhino. That forward hole slot, that the immolator chair is at, or a dome? Is there a way to make my own dome, or peice to slot in that section to make rhinos if I want?

That forward hole is the same size as the holes for a rhino's top gunner hatches. It is also the same size as the clear targeting dome that fits between the weapons in front of the Immolator's gunner so if you have a spare one of those, you could mold and cast up all you need.
Well surprising what old bits I have laying around in a box still. I found a entire skaven mordhein warband, plus the parts I was going to use to make a nurgle tainted space marine chapter that had just started down the path turning into space rats. I managed to find the top circle cover hatches, and 2 of the storm bolter turret circles. No storm bolters but I am able to turn two of these into rhinos with that. Also found the circle dome for the sisters rhino. So I am pretty pleased, that I can make 3 rhinos and 3 immolatrs, or 6 immolatrs if I want now.

Which should be plenty :) Worst comes to it Sisters can use normal Rhinos just fine.

Red and white is a very good colour combination and works especially well on Sisters so I'm interested in seeing your progress. May the Emprah watch over your efforts!

Sorry for the wait on this. Between camera issues last month, and being generally busy. I finally got some updates. This is the red and white color theme I had figured out. Let me know what you guys think. I am really enjoying the color choices and how it contrasts well together. I did the superior backpacks a little different the "bubbles" not sure what else to call them. I painted in gold, it is a subtle way to tell the superior from the basic line ones. As I am running my stock it works great. Hope you guys enjoy.

They look really good. ^^

You're applying the gold paint a little too thickly, though - that's why it has that slightly blobbly effect. When applying colours that don't coat well, like gold, you need to build them up in very thin layers but use a lot of them, allowing each one to dry before applying the next.

Also, metallics cover better over black, so it might be worth using a brush to apply some Imperial Primer (or your black pigment of choice) over the areas that are going to get blinged up.

Thank you Furyou Miko. I honestly did not notice that slightly blobby effect tell I was able to get the pictures and take them at the game store. As for the metal I will see about thinning down my gold again. It may have re thickened some. I used a dark grey primer for these models. I thought it was the best contrast for white and my dark colors. My gold is a little different then others. I use tin bitz as a base, then go with two or three layers of shining gold. Then I used that new dry golden gryphon, that may be where it is coming from also. I will double check for my future models for sure.

I am very pleased with the direction they are starting to go though. As most 40k armies I see are all dark and gloomy looking, even most marines. So I wanted a nice bright look.

Agreed, gold benefits greatly from slowly building it up. I like to give gold a wash too to help take the edge off it without removing too much shine (Seraphim Sepia I think it's called now - how appropriate!).

I like the bases too, there needs to be more sand bases in the hobby :)

Thank you Greatcrusade and Warriorfish. I am going to see what I can do about the gold to try to make it pop out more. This is the first ever army I decided to go with white as a major focus on coloring. So this is new to me. As I get more of them done. I'll keep posting. I wanted to share what I did have and let you guys help me improve them.

The desert theme base, my reasoning behind this is. I still have most of a dead grass static grass bowl, and still like half of the sand from basing my Tomb Kings. Figured I might as well use what I have. I think it looks nice with my models too.

My camera phone is not really the best also. I want to get a decent digital camera when I can. That may account for some of the picture quality. I do appreciate all the suggestions and help. It only lets me get better. I do enjoy sharing them with you guys.

I agree that it looks good. Miko has some good advice on painting. I rally like the seraphim's flying bases you did. I never liked the metal pegs for the slotted bases they use.

It's true that most people's armies are very dark. I did once see someone paint her Ork army bright pink. Then you have the very very very yellow angry marines

What can I say? I like dark painted armies because I can look at them without being blinded. :D

Seriously, I saw my mother's Brettonians under a bright light once and had to take a minute to recover...

^^ My partner paints her 'nids "rainbow vomit" colour though, and my housemate's Eldar are all blue with red shoes.

Well I needed to do something for my seraphim. As the metal pegs where all cut off. These seem more sturdy then the pegs anyways though. Well it is different trying to be bright. I am pleased with the effect though.

Wow Furyou Miko. I can't imagine the eldar and the red shoes. I hope I didn't blind you with my models. =)

eldar with red shoes.. arent they santas little helpers?

btw Sume, i see your entering in a 1k doubles soon.. me too, this coming sunday.

IMO its a geat points level and balance for SoB, be good to share some tips and findings.. when is your event?

ill post up as much as i can on mine (assuming mine comes first), hopefully i can provide some insights into match ups for you.

My doubles tournament is on Dec 15th, and then on the 16th is a fantasy doubles. The idea is to try to encourage some of the 40k players to play fantasy. Still not sure what my friend is going to bring for 40k. As for fantasy my tomb kings are teamed up with Bretonian knights.

I have some more pictures to add to this. Things are coming along nicely.

No not at all. I have not painted a tank in like 10 years. Of course all my tanks are also second hand. I did the best I could scrubbing them clean. Only the sides came out more thick then I wanted, and every attempt about to try to fix compounded the problem more. So my plan is just to use it tell the doubles tournament. Then when I have more time, just stick it in the freezer. Let the glue pop, and soak the offending sides, and redo.

I got more updates. I got to take pictures of both rhinos and the retributors. Here is the rest of the second troop squad, also the model I made into a Cannoess.

These models look great. :D The only thing I would recommend would be to hit your bases with a bit of flock, either snow or grass or both maybe. Nice work, over all.

ADDENDUM: Oh, I'm a noob; there IS flock on those, haha. (I think.) What I really meant was "flock your bases with something that adds a bit of contrast"...a bright green in particular would really pop. That's just my opinion though; they look good regardless.

You say pop, I say clash horribly. lol. Goblin green or whatever would just make the whole thing look bad because it would clash with the red. The desert base is the right way to go here - snow would just merge with the armour. You might be able to pull off a dark (Dark Angels maybe) green, but certainly nothing bright.

I like the Canoness' power sword - have you thought about putting a line of white along the very edge, and then doing the lighter blue part with gloss varnish to really make it 'glow'?

I like the desert theme, as well I got so much of the basing stuff I mixed up for my Tomb Kings left along with the dead grass.

Furyou Miko that is a great idea. If I get time today I will go ahead and try that. I still got the last rhino to finish. I was trying to get the power sword to look like the ones you see on the Grey Knight's halberds on the GW site. Due to time, I decided to leave it as is for now. My partner for the doubles is bringing GK so I went and looked up the models and a little browsing into their tactics.

I totally forgot to take a picture of my retributors today and the two rhinos. I had to make a quick swap adjustment for the doubles tournament. My partner took Grey Knight termmies with the Inqusitor guy on the walker chair, cant think of his name. We did 1 win, 1 draw, and 1 lose. The draw and lose where very close games. I had fun and enjoyed myself. The highlight is my Sisters took best painted army. Of course out of the 16 armies there, 5 where fully painted. That makes me feel pretty good.
