so i just finished two little projects tonight. and i may need some rules help with one.

first a grey knight tech marine in terminator armour. (he gets artificer anyway so i'll just counts as)

secondly a grey knights chaplain which annoyingly doesn't exist in the codex (they are in the fluff but...ah well) I guess i'll either just play him as a librarian or i'll work out some rules for a friendly game.) i figured make him pretty much a reclusiarch like in the BA book but as a grey knight he needs a psychic power. i could give him one of the generic ones i guess like hammer hand or psychic communion but i'd rather he have his own, any thoughts?

What function does a grey knights chaplain serve? For the normal space marine chapters, chaplains are there to maintain the doctrine/practices of the chapter cult, as well as to mentor and bolster the spirits of marines. GK are all supposed to be unbreakable (they were Fearless prior to this edition) and have unwavering loyalty to the Emperor, the Imperium, et al. Basically, the traditional role of a Chaplain seems needless. Meanwhile, the GK Champion has the same spiritual affect on his brethren (the re-rolls when charging into combat).

None of that bears any weight insofar as how awesome those conversions look. :D What are your thoughts on colors?

EDIT: Clarification.

there are chaplains in the ben coulter books i guess someone has to make them fearess and give them unswerving faith in the emperor.

the chaplain will be mostly black with golds and the techmarine will be a mix of dirty silver and mechanicum red, i gs'd all the writing iff his armour so i think he will have a more different colour scheme

thanks :P

As much as the idea of a GK chaplain seems redundant I can see them acting as recruiters/trainers. You honestly wouldn't need more than a handful, and, like the Prognosticators, wouldn't be required to actually fight on the front lines often if ever.

But if you were to make your own power up, I would go with something that boosts the Aegis. His faith serves as a natural conduit for his brothers around him to channel their powers through.

Also on the techmarine, is that bits from the finecast techmarine? If so, which one? How well does the servoharness hook up to the GK torso? I was thinking about doing a similar conversion in the not to distant future, but didn't know which techmarine set to get

i magnetised mine and it works nicely, the back vents neatly fit the harness. it is bits from the finecast techmarine with servitors.

i played the chaplain today using a datasheet i wrote and got the staff at my LGS to agree was fair. the power i gave him seems kind of wierd and overpowered but it really doesnt play that way and ends up with some cool narative stuff. basically its a blessing called prayer for the fallen that gives the chaplain and his unit +1 to their ws, S & A for every three models killed from that unit. that way he only gets a really big horrendous buff when the squad is down to the last man. i only allowed him to be taken with GK units btw, no big ol' henchmen squads

i completely agree with you about the role of the chaplain
