Garden Ninja
Ok, I can't take credit for any of the conversions- my client send all of these to me assembled. The color scheme is also largely his idea- the force is meant to look dirtier and more battle worn than what we normally see in Legion of the Damned. Overall, I'm rather fond of the results. Here they are: http://www.gardenninja.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files/legion-of-the-damned/lotd12.jpg http://www.gardenninja.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files/legion-of-the-damned/lotd13.jpg http://www.gardenninja.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files/legion-of-the-damned/lotd6.jpg http://www.gardenninja.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files/legion-of-the-damned/lotd-11.jpg And also, I painted up a techmarine for this force: http://www.gardenninja.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files/legion-of-the-damned/lotd9.jpg http://www.gardenninja.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files/legion-of-the-damned/lotd7.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/260936-legion-of-the-damned-bikers/ Share on other sites
Kierdale
Very nice work. The bikes are well converted but I must praise your painting, in particular the flames on the Thunderfire cannon, they're excellent! BrotherGyram
Really nice indeed! I always liked the idea of an army made entirely out of LotD models. Good job! Jupiter Forge
Wow, that's pretty Ghost-Rider! Those Skull-bikes would terrify any enemy on the battlefield! And I've never seen a LotD Techmarine, and I have to say that he looks pretty scary himself, great job. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/260936-legion-of-the-damned-bikers/#findComment-3175278 Share on other sites

They work really well with the theme, and they're a lot of fun to paint. appiah4
The flames looked really wrong to my eyes at first and I couldn't tell why.. Then I realized they were inverted. They should have been yellow/white in the inside and red on the outside, yours are red inside and yellow outside.. Remember a fire is hotter the closer to your heat source, and from hotness to coolness it's white/blue - yellow - orange - red (-brown - black) http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/7/7d/Candleburning.jpg/170px-Candleburning.jpg My nitpicking aside, very nice! Of course, the current thinking is that fire on minis needs to be painted lighter towards the source- you are absolutely right. It allows for us to fool the eye into thinking that it is seeing a real source of light. However, I find it odd that this sort of thinking has permeated the culture so much that people think that the rule still applies when we're not really painting fire. When painting hotrod flames, the rules go out the window. I'm not trying to fool the eye, I'm trying to make it look like someone painted flames onto these marine's armor. On a side note, I can't help but think that we still have a little ways to go in figuring out how to paint fire properly. For example: http://www.wausaubusinessdirectory.com/images/wausaubusinessdirectorycom/bizwebsites/42/Fire.jpg This looks like a real fire to me- and I'm pretty sure it is a photograph. But it doesn't follow the rules. Makes me think about it, I guess. appiah4
The artifacting near the bottom and the obvious supersampling on the edges lead me to believe it is a render. Which is beside the point. Artistically you are free to go for whatever you wish to go for, and it looks good, I just thought it didn't look like flames or like someone painted flames on the armor. To me at the very least. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/260936-legion-of-the-damned-bikers/#findComment-3178315 Share on other sites
