Rebuilding Cato Sicarius

Hi All,

-----First Post Backstory ------

I've been a long time lurker and not much of a poster. I'm a newbie in the world of Warhammer 40k. I've been a D&D fan all my life and never really thought much of Warhammer. All I really knew was it was expensive and completely foreign to me. To make a long story story short, I felt like painting minis like I used to when I was a kid, but I couldn't get a hold of any of the old style pewter D&D minis. I ended up picking up a tactical squad of Space Marines. I borrowed my nephew's Space Marine codex and I became an instant nut over the Ultramarines. It became my ambition (much like any newcomer to Warhammer 40k it seems) to recreate the 2nd company. I've been doing alright so far (I'll post some pics elsewhere, maybe I'll start a blog).

One of my more recent pickups was Sicarius, and I painted him. I wasn't all that happy with him. The painting was ok, but he is just a boring mini. I mean this is the Captain of the 2nd Company, Master of the Watch, title, title etc -- and he is just standing there with a smirk. I felt like making him more dynamic. So I went nuts and Simple Greened him up and took out my hand Swiss Army Knife and cut the crap out of him. I've begun to rebuild him. I did a quick glue together to show you my progress. I'm going to unglue take off the rest of the paint from the other mini and

I would appreciate any comments or tips you guys might have. Thanks in advance.

And now the pics!! Sorry for the pissy quality IPhone 3 wasn't meant for taking awesome pictures I guess.

Sorry for the blurry photo. Here I hacked off his left shoulder.

Here is his sword. I'm dumb, cause I just realized the Aquila isn't part of the sword.

And here he is pieced together a little. I plan on him holding the plasma on the left and his sword on the right. Any ideas on what I should do to fill in the space on the shoulder?

Mike

Sorry it took so long to get this to any stage of completion. I think he looks far more the part of a general. All I have left to do is finish off his ultramarine badge and his base. A few more details here and there. I'd welcome any comments.

Funny I should spot this topic, as I was eying up my Sicarius today trying to work out how I might repose him and if it was even possible given how solid the mini is.

I like your take on the model. I'm impressed you managed to get his left arm off so cleanly as that was my main problem point when considering the cutting options. I agree with karden00 about the agemo on the chest; it could do with being scaled down a little. Not to deny the fact that the original has its share of enormous U's that is.

With yours as inspiration, I'll add reposing our Master of the Watch to my list of future projects.
