I have started in a Death Guard army with Nurgle demon allies

I have already posted this on another forum but as this a dedicated forum this is really the best place for it!

I decided to go for the pre heresey look on the marines - had loads of fun painting him and took less time than the green armoured testers

I dont know whether blight drone should now have same armour as space marine? still i might mix and match who cares!

Here is a the first step by step for the plague marines.

anyhow trying this out - feel free to add layers, be a bit neater etc - the final step (pigments, chipping etc tends to cover up most of the mistakes!

first step - over a grey primer i painted with a tank brush valejo air yellow sand (can be airbrushed on)

they wash the whole model with gryphonne sepia - straight from the pot

Next I paint the armour on streaky style mixing white with the sand yellow 3 layers last is white - here feel free to paint neatly etc - painting in streaks is a lot quicker and once all the mig products are applied imo adds to the look im going for

Fill in the blocks - trim, weapons pipes etc

Once that is done the fun begins!!

applying the pigments is straight forward - with a dry brush i put the pigment where i want it to be rusting, then use the lighter rust for contrast.- the brown wash is applied in around the rivets and pulled down so it looks like dried in leaking oil and then with a bit of blister sponge i dab boltgun on random points of the model and finally apply red yellow glazes on different spots.

and here is a closer shot - not quite finished (i need to tidy up a few spots were i got carried away :8) and obviously the bases.

I use a lot of purple with what I do. It works well. Is that just the base coat?

just a slap and dash tester (about 15 mins work) to see if i like the scheme

assembled and base coated another 7 plague bearers so will get to work on them shortly.

Here is a WIP of the dread i would say about 90% there with him

The eyes on the leg would look nice with some OSL too.

yup plan on doing that next

the armour plates were dimpled using greenstuff - took inspiration from the blight drone armour

the model was airbrushed olive green (tamiya) then the trim of the armour done with dhenib stone and white.

All the rusts were done with 2 shades of mig pigment rust, pigment fixer and then mig light rust and brown washes in places.

Mig pigments are not much more than a regular paint pot - the washes are a little more expensive but the containers are large.

i also used boltgun metal dabbed on with a bit of sponge for the worn metal bits.

from base coat to current state probably only 2 hours work.

  • 3 weeks later...

finally go round to basing some of the models - work has intervened recently so painting has slowed - hopefully back on the wagon next week

@ mstersmith - just bought them on ebay - i think ww2 set of colours

Wow your metals and rust look really good, are they done with pigments? If so could you tell short tutorial, im trying out pigments atm too :)

Edit: Pfft stupid me rushing through the thread, there actually was a tut there right in the beginning ;) Sorry. Do you use pigments on Tin Bitz, looks like it atleast ;) ? But yeah you have done absolutely amazing paintjob, your rusty dusty dirty white is spot on :) Doing that drone in green looks nice, pops out nicely.
