Theduke08
Greetings Sons of Russ. I am planning on running some wolves as allies for my Blood Angels. As of right now I was planning on using right around 500 points for this. This is what I plan on running but I do not know how to make these units "optimal". Some suggestions would be greatly appreciated. 9 GH, 2 plasma guns, Wolf standard, drop pod Rune Priest in Runic Armour Lone Wolf, TDA, SS/CF, 2 wolves The questions im looking for answers for are whenever I see Space Wolf army lists each unit has some soft of talismans or marks and Im not sure which ones of these would suite my needs. The GH squad is going to be dropped in my opponents back field while the Lone wolf is going straight for the toughest unit on the board. Any suggestions or other options would be greatly appreciated. Grimtooth
No idea what you mean by rune priest in lone wolf. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/261256-sw-allies/#findComment-3178333 Share on other sites
Wulfebane
The questions im looking for answers for are whenever I see Space Wolf army lists each unit has some soft of talismans or marks and Im not sure which ones of these would suite my needs. Well, prior to the new FAQ, you could (per RAW) utilize 4? different attempts at ignoring/saving against an enemy psychic power through runic weapons, talismans, etc. Now you may only choose one. That said, next to Eldar, I believe, our RPs have the best psychic defense available via their runic weapons' 24" radius flat 4+ save. None of this "must be within 6" for Denying a Witch" junk. So for SW armies that don't have a Rune Priest's blanketed null zone, wolf tail talismans are going to help you out better than DtW. Also, you're paying quite a bit for that second plasma gun, considering you lack 1 GH to make it free. As for what you're missing.. you have ranged punching power in the plasma guns, but since you're playing the back end, you WILL get melee'd. So you need something to counter that. My advise would be a power axe for any pesky AP2 models that you encounter. It's Ini 1, but you get to keep your +1A for dual ccw. Another option is MotW, but that is a preference I seldom playtest. Power fists would be inefficient for the cost, so I wouldn't recommend one. If I may make a suggestion... SWs are unique in that they get 2 HQ units per HQ slot. As an ally, that means you can get 2 HQ (someone correct me if this was found to be wrong). So with the option of 2 HQ, keep your RP, but put him in a support role with your devastators. Replace him with a Wolf Priest with Saga of the Hunter, allowing BEL, and attach him to a full 10-man pack of Grey Hunters (thus giving you the free plasma gun). Have them come on in your enemy's deployment zone from reserves and wreak havoc with the WP's Preferred Enemy letting those plasma guns reroll misses. It's not as quick a deployment as the drop pod, but atleast this way you give your opponent a chance to move forward a bit to give you some room, and it'll force him to change tactics on whether to keep trekking forward or to sacrifice his strategy to protect his rear. Grimtooth
He can't even get the second plasma gun in the GH pack unless he has 10 GH in the pack in the first place. Yeah, that's what I meant... running around without a codex today. :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/261256-sw-allies/#findComment-3178504 Share on other sites
