Hellrender
Hey there, I was thinking about the Night Lords lightning armour, as i am painting my DV models up like those. Now i really enjoy painting that, and i wondered why there is lightning on the armour of the Night Lords, and if a loyalist chapter could have something like this aswell? and what the fluff around that would be then. Thanks in advance Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/261285-lightning-armour/ Share on other sites
Micius
The only non-standard paintjobs I could think of were the the Executioners and the Minotaurs , however both of these chapters have had their color schemes standardized in more recent editions. The Executioners used to have blue and darker blue camo and green highlights, but now they are silver with yellow highlights. The Minotaurs, who used to be quartered yellow and red with diagonal stripes in the yellow sections, are now bronze with red highlights. It seems to me like unorthodox paint jobs are being discouraged. In my imagination, others (the inquisition, the ecclesiarchy, other Astartes, etc.) would be more suspicious of chapters with non-standard color schemes on appearance alone, conformity being the rule in the Imperium. I don't think there is anything stopping a chapter from having one if they wanted one though. The Night Lords had one because "...the Night Lords excelled at reinforcing the Emperor's will - through fear. To increase their effectiveness in this regard, Curze encouraged the Night Lords to decorate their power armour with death imagery" (Lexicanum). That being said, if you want to do it, do it. There's no real reason you shouldn't if you really want that look. edit: You might want to check out the Fire Wasps (DIY, can't find background), Fighting Tygers (DIY), or The Shadow Warriors (DIY). Stigus Adeptus
There's not really a restriction on chapter paint schemes. Hell, you could probably find a reason in the fluff to have your marines covered in neon lights if you wanted. I think the current trend of toning down the colors is just people losing the sense of crazy fun that used to be there. If you wanted a lightning scheme you could have the people on your chapter recruiting world believe the lightning is a physical manifestation of the Emperor's might, or something along those lines. I think the effect looks good, and if you like it more power to you. Messor
Stigus's reasoning is excellent; there are any number of similar ways to incorporate a lightning scheme. Have at it. EgoDraconumNigrorum
I recall reading up about the Night Lords lightning armour in a White Dwarf magazine a few years back when the current Chaos Codex was just released. It stated that the lightning was not just a painted design on the armour, but it was in fact real warp magic lightning that danced across the armour. - EgoDraconumNigrorum Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/261285-lightning-armour/#findComment-3180487 Share on other sites
