Looking for advice on expanding my army

Hello, brothers and sisters. I am Wulvenblut, long-time stalking the forums, coming out of the shadows for the advice of the wise.

I'm playing 1500p games againts Dark Eldar, Orkz and Chaos Space Marines, and I'm planning on expanding my army, but I'm having troubles deciding what to add.

Currently I have:

HQ:

1 Wolf Lord (Logan Grimnar metal model): TDA, Storm Shield, Frost Blade.

1 Rune Priest (Njal metal model): TDA.

Elite:

1 Dreadnought (Bjorn metal model).

5 x Wolf Guard: 5 TDA, 1 Assault Cannon, 4 Combi-plasma, 3 Wolf Claws, 2 Chainfist.

5 x Wolf Scouts (I rarely use them): CCW, Pistol, 1 Melta gun.

Troops:

20 x Grey Hunters in two identical packs: 2 Plasma Gun, Wolf Standard, Power Axe, MotW in each pack.

Heavy Support:

6 x Long Fangs: 2 Plasma Cannon, 3 Missile Launcher.

For Allies I have:

Grey Knights (I know there are better allies, but I always loved the fluff on the 1st Armaggedon War, so....)

1 Librarian

5 Terminators: Psycannon, 1 Nemesis Hammer, 1 Nemesis Halberd, 3 Nemesis Swords.

That's my footsloggin army.

The only thing clear to me is to add more Long Fangs, they are just awesome.

I'm feeling the need to have some Fast Attack choice. I don't like Thunderwolves Cavalry, Sky Claws or Land Speeders, so that leaves me with Fenrisian Wolves and Swift Claws. Two packs of 10 Fenrisian Wolves as counter-attack units for the Grey Hunters and the Wolf Guard. Also 5 Swift Claws (1 Multi-melta attack bike, Flamer, Power Sword) with a Biker Wolf Priest.

How does that sound? Any other advices?

Thanks!

PD: Sorry for the long wall of text.

Nadir hit it right on the head. You need more Grey Hunters and to decide on how you want to get them around. How you move your troops pretty much determines how your army will be built.

Rhinos add mech saturation, making high T models and AV a little better.

Footslogging is tougher to shift and you can add Wolf Guard or ICs to max out the size of your GH squads without worry, but don't plan on making it past mid-field and what Vehicles and high T you take will be focused easier.

Drop Pods are a solid option for SW but remember that ours only hold 10 models, so you'll have to design them around a squad of 8 or so.

I agree with the good folks above. Troops are a must especially in 6th. Perhaps a 3 rd pack of GrayHunters in a Razorback with or without a Wolf Guard Pack Ldr.(means giving one to your other 2 packs but they foot sloggin so doesn't really matter). Gives you some mobility for a bit & if kept in your backfield , some fire support for your forward elements. An alternative for your Long Fangs might be a Predator. For a while I was not a fan of them but then I experimented 4 or 5 games with one in my backfield in cover giving long range fire suport. Was pleasently surprised how well it worked out.

The only suggestion I have might be is to reconsider LandSpeeders. Vehiciles in general play different in 6th now but squadrons have also changed. I personally love my Typhoons but each to there own. Good Luck.

Thanks for your replies. It seems that the general consensus is to add more Grey Hunters. I like the idea of a small pack with a Razorback. As you said, I doubt it will last, but I prefer a dark lance shot to the razorback rather than to a TDA Wolf guard.

A Space Wolves box will be a good purchase, to make 5 Grey Hunters and 3 WGPL in PA (Combi-plasma for these, maybe a power weapon)

I'm liking more and more the idea of Fenrisian wolves. Maybe it its not very competitive, but it sounds like fun. 30 attacks at I5 against Ork boyz or Chaos Terminators seems to be devastating.

Fenirisan wolves are fun. I ran just a min squad of 5 to fill some points against guard and they did well. He saw how fast they were coming for his mortars etc and focused fire on them.

Leaving my thunder wolves and other units at near full unit strength.

Just don't expect them to kill their worth. Overwatch makes them fall over relatively easily

I've decided to go for another 10-men Grey Hunters squad, maybe with flamers, and 20 Fenrisian wolves divided into 2 packs. Cover and the wolves as a distraction should keep the other squads from getting destroyed. Thanks everyone

I you are facing orks and dark eldar regularly, flamers are your friend. For 5pts on a TDA wolf guard they are evil. Played a game yesterday, boarding assault (750pts) and I ran a grey hunter squad, lone wolf in tda and a wolf priest with 10 wolf guard tdas, two heavy flamers. They greased two whole squads of dire avengers + exarchs in two turns of shooting - the flamers took most of the kills. Blood claws are cheap, big squads size and are perfect for two free flamers as they have low bs.

Personally I'd run a lone wolf, they're hilarious. I used one in tda with a thunder hammer, first game it took a 7-man deathwing squad and a redeemer to bring him down. Second game he nailed a warlock, farseer and three wraithguard in two turns of cc, then took out an 8-man fire dragon squad with exarch, not bad for just 60pts!

I have just ran switftclaws for the first time, two 4-man squads with a MM attack bike ... they died quickly as I deployed them wrong but they took a ton of firepower. I'd definitely run them again.

Grey hunters - yeah as someone has said more troops is good, maybe give them transport options. Long fangs, meh, I used 5-man missile squad and they shot 20 missiles over 4 turns and didn't kill a thing! Bad dice I guess, everyone else seems to love them.

Lastly, fenrisian wolves. Don't underestimate them, especially in close combat. I've got about 50 and always run some lol.....
