The Case of the Murky 5 Years Jar Under the Sink

Greetings, brothers!

I am wondering if any of you have stumbled upon a similar situation as mine

So I'm sitting in the bathroom, rummaging through the cabinet under the sink for a jug of bleach when I noticed a familiar yet mysterious object: a gallon container of Yoplait yogurt, covered and sealed and long forgotten. For over five years, this container has been sitting there in the back of the cabinet. It's the kind of sketch container under your bathroom sink you don't want to throw out cuz you don't know what exactly is in it, yet it looks too dirty for you to bother inspecting it . So tonight, I decided... :) it! Let's see what's in this thing...

So I grabbed it and I inspected it, shaking it to hear liquid sloshing with solid bits inside. I opened it to find this murky water that smelled familiar. Palmolive? Tide? No... Simple Green! Then it struck me... The container was one of my brother's long-lost stripping jars!

I took a plastic spoon and stirred through the muck, and lo and behold. The murky fog in the water parted... and swimming among the pile of Reaper fantasy figs were Space Marines! Almost a full squad, mostly generics. Long lost battle brothers cursed to half a decade submerged in a chemical bath! Some even had Wolf markings!

But no more! Under running water, the paint came right off, as did the super glue bond, which were as brittle as waffers after being soaked for so long. One rinse under the sink and they looked as new as the day they came off the sprues (except for the metal, but they look serviceable nevertheless. Unlikely they are lead, or they would be crumbling to dust by now)

I am definitely excited, brothers! This must have been how the Space Wolves felt when the 13th Company just showed up out of nowhere. Some of these marines look like they date back to 3rd edition if not older. I wonder if any are rare?

Nevertheless, what a find! ^_^

Good score brother... Now don't tell him that you found some choosers of the slain and almost a squad to add to your army. That is unless he is completely out of the hobby.

I cannot say that I have had the experience as of yet. I will say that I have gone digging and found stuff for other hobbies that I have forgotten about.

Yeah, got full consent. He has no use for these no more. Always figured him to be a Tau kinda guy, not a marine dude, but definitely didn't expect to find these guys in his possession.

And lookit this! Cypher's Backpack is in this pile... but no Cypher... :)

Good find brother Vols. That muck that you had to sift through .. yeah that WAS cypher.

Heh, Cypher probably got out of there pretty quick when he realized the Fang was upon him!

Nice find, though. Makes a neat backstory, too, as that can be a squad recovered from the warp. Needn't be 13th Company, maybe the survivors of an battleship who warp drive malfunctioned or remnants of a company fighting too near the Eye of Terror long ago. Or maybe they were thrown into the warp by Tzeentchian sorcery during a battle and assumed lost, their original Lord and company long since gone.

Perhaps even give them a special pack mark to commemorate their old fellows while welcoming their new brothers.

Didn't have an experience quite like that, but did come across an old timer that had a suit case full of 40k stuff he wanted to let go of...Opened it up when I got home and it was full of old 3rd ed, and a few that were older, Marines and vehicles. Old school Land Speeders, Dreds, Las/plas razorbacks w/ the gunners on the turrets, Rhinos, a couple of funky preds...(that I can't tell if they were built wrong or if they changed the design as well as size with the newer ones.. gonna have to remember to look into those and check) Some real old, super skinny terminators. Shoulder mounted heavy bolters, and all kinds of crazy figs. Now I get to give them all a simple green bath....and hopefully I won't forget about them for 5 years lol

Edit: Hehe, looked em up... The "classic" preds were built different with the turrent in the front....Fugly....too much like a chimera or LR for my tastes... good thing I converted the one I decided to use for now...tho I am sure "purists" will gasp....LOL

A shoulder-mounted Bolter!

God Damn! I was wondering what the hell this bit is! It's a shoulder-mounted Bolter!

Yeah, I'm being extra careful with lead. I do re-call my brother having a miniature made of some strange, perhaps dangerous metal. It seemed to have a major chunk of it dissolved in the Simple Green. We freaked out, threw it away, re-rinsed all of the figs, and re-bathed them in simple green. Anything that looked corroded went in the trash, but to be honest, most of those seemed like Rogue Trader era metal marines.

Thankfully, the majority of this find are plastic and newer models! Found a Templar Sword Bretheren. This one, I have no clue how to get him G-ed up to a Wolf.
