+++++09-12-2012+++++

As Morticon arived on Armageddon, the hordes of green flith where the last hinderance in his path.

The Baal predators will be worth their weight this battle he tought...

FOR SANGUINIUS! MAKE THEM BLEED!

+++++End of transmission+++++

Back where they should be, on top of a pile of steaming corpses of their enemies (even if the daemons dissipate after a little while)...

Congratulations - go home, have beer, sleep, then write-up for all us deprived individuals who couldnt come and watch...!

Well done Mort, and very well deserved.

5 wins from 5 games, awesome!!

Those Daemons you faced in game three completely anihilated me in game 1 and those Orks from Richard just couldnt die fast enough in Game 2 which left me having to claw my way back from last place to 22nd :D

Anyway, you did fantastic, and I don't think many armies there would have been able to take you on very succesfully. You played the missions every game and that was key.

PRE GAME INFO:

So, a little bit of history, meta and background for y'all. Feel free to skip and check the location/table pics at the end.

SA has a small but very dedicated 40k player base. Its obviously not as huge as it is in the States and the UK, but the players that play are very into it- as with all players around the world. The standard of high level gaming is generally on a par with what I've experienced in the States, though the percentage of those high-level gamers is considerably higher. In a tourney here, you'd have maybe 10-20% really, really top class gamers and a higher percentage of decent gamers and a fair percentage of average-below average gamers. In the States on the other hand there seems to be a higher percentage of really top gamers, then a big chunk of decent gamers and only a small percentage of average/below average gamers. This is all purely anecdotal and based on my experiences in a handful of adepticon tournies and a host of other games while touring the States and playing 40k.

ANYWAY, the reason I bring this up is having a reasonably small gaming community, you wind up knowing who the top players are, and what armies they play. You wont necessarily know what list they use, but definitely their armies. The top players I were concerned about were:

Crons

Orks

Daemons

IG and

IG/GK

that was what I knew off-hand! So all the prep for my list building had to consider those lists.

Most importantly however were the daemons with those bastard screamers (and THANK YOU to the guys in this forum that highlighted me to the threats of flamers!!! wow - what a broken unit)

SO- every year the tournament is either in Johannesburg or Cape Town (we alternate). There is a friendly (sometimes) city rivalry much like East/West coast vibes in the USA. In addition to the tourney, theres a North/South competition going on- with the floating trophy (sword) going to the winning team.

Anyway, im gonna stop waffling and move right along. Here are some snaps of the tourney tables:
