MomentoMori
Was wondering what the general consensus is on heavy bolters on immolators aswell as spamming heavy bolters in non retributers squads. I want to keep 3 excorsist in my main list and instead spam heavy bolters elsewhere. Last night I watched a video by beast of war on sisters and heavy bolters. I've never been a huge fan of heavy bolters. But the video made me reconsider. Im thinking of a list that looks like this: Celestine Canoness Comand Sqaud- 3x Heavy bolter Immolator w/HB and infernal bolts 3-4 sisters squads- HB, flamer/melta mix rhino Sera squad dual hand flamers 2x Doms- 2x melta Immolator w/ HB and infernal bolts 3x Excorsist Can twin linked heavy bolters on immolators compete with twin link multi melta immolators? *Furyou Miko
Depends what you're trying to do. Heavy Bolters can't kill tanks. Light vehicles, maybe, but not tanks. Multi-meltas suck at killing infantry. Jacinda
Can twin linked heavy bolters on immolators compete with twin link multi melta immolators? Depends what you're trying to do. Heavy Bolters don't compete with multi-meltas, they compete with flamers. When you put an Immolator in your army you have to pick a role for it to fill. Is it going to be anti-tank or anti-infantry? It is a common tactic to put melta Dominions in an Immolator with twin-linked heavy flamers; that way the Dominions can pop a transport while the Immolator flames the the unit that was riding in it. If you explode the transport, the disembarked unit will be close packed and sitting right where the transport used to be giving you prime template placement and re-rolls to wound. It is very effective when it works right. Heavy Bolters can not match the number of hits a flamer can produce, but it does get a nice range to it. They don't leave your vehicle in direct danger of a counter-assault like a flame template does. On the other hand, if you want your Immolators to be able to hurt a rhino (or a walker, or basically anything else with an Armor Value) there is only one choice. Take the meltas. If you want take more Heavy Bolters, I think you can make a viable list. Exorcists are more than capable of killing most transport and you still have the Dominions' melta for heavy armor. Another thing to consider, you can take 5 Celestians with a Heavy Bolter for as little as 85 points. *Furyou Miko
I take it you don't have much experience with either army? I think there's a couple over in the Army Lists forum already.
