Abraxus' Dark Angels WIP

I've always liked the story line behind the Dark Angels, the "robed warrior/monk" look, and with the release of Dark Vengence had the strong need to have a marine army that I wasn't going to truescale.

With that said, it can still be hard to motivate oneself, even when doing a "low conversion count" army, so I thought I would share a few of the WIPs

Venerable Dreadnought:

Not quite Dark Angels (yet), but I am taking a small contingent from C:SM just for the more reasonable sniper scouts and a Stormtalon. Depending on the new codex, I may "induct" this bird permenently. If I do I'll be repainting the silver portions black and trying to figure out what to do with the white suited pilot.

I also have some progress with a DV RW serg converted to an attack bike, but only base coated thus far. My goal is to do the entire 4th company.

Ug, I forgot all about the checkered knee pads. The checks on the dread were cake (hooray orc decal sheet!) but I completely forgot that there was a REASON I had painted all the left knees white to start.

Oh well, should be.... fun. I'm hoping to have all the even numbered squads done by the end of the year, so Tactical squads 2, 4 and 6, assault squad 8, and devestator squads 10 and 12 (I always do 4, 5 man squads instead of 2, 10 man squads) as well as the dread, a chaplain, a libby, a few deathwing, and a few ravenwing

I also just noticed that Photobucket has decided to rotate half the pictures back on their sides, I'll have to see if I can figure out how to force them back.

Now with my luck I'll get thru this half and then the new codex will come out and they'll say "dark angels are not a codex chapter now, surprise!"

@Stobz,

Glad you like him! I don't think I did any greenstuff work. The main body is the sarge from Space Hulk, sword is from the DV company master, head is from the Vet sprue and the "collar" is from a venerable dreadnought (similar to the imperial fist sarge with the plasma cannon that was on the GW blog a few weeks back).

edit almost forgot, the left leg was replced with the DA termie leg form the veteran sprue

Was a rough month, I didn't think I'd finish my vow. As it is they aren't done to the point I wanted them, but we found out Oct. 9th that my mother-in-law has stage 4 cancer, so suffice it to say, I've been spending most of my evenings consoling my wife/visiting family. I had the last models at 70-80% before that though, so I stayed up late the past few nights to try and finish up.

I'm going to Vow for Nov. as well once it's up, but things are big time up in the air, so not too sure I'll actually be able to finish... Family first!

P.S. Sorry to hear about the Mother-in-law(it seems to touch all of us at some point in our lives, its a tough road to walk so my heart felt thoughts go to you and your Family)

Great work on the Rhino - lovin the tactical arrow on the top but the 4 could be a little bit bigger though -

it looks a little lost in all that red paint

And nice mud!

I love the HK missile paintjob btw...I might stal the idea if you don't mind.

Steal away! The checkers are just a decal from the Orc decal sheet, cut to roughly the correct length and then wrapped, easy-peazy

How long before you tackle Belial?

Belial might be awhile. I have a goal to finish the 4th company and I may use finishing Belial, the DW command squad, and the dread as an "incentive" to getting all those tactical, assault, and devastator squads done (My head is reeling just thinking about all those highlights...).

Originally I was going to have the 4th company emlem in the middle of the arrow with a diameter slightly larger than the height of the middle portion of the arrow and place the 4 in the emblem's bone collored portion, but then when I got the idea to place the emlem on the hathch I figure placing it on the arrow might be too much. I do agree, I really need to paint over that decal and try freehanding a larger 4, but after free-handing all the 4's on the shoulder pads... well I'm a little scared

Looks great. One detail I really like is the 4th Co sigil on the cupola's hatch covers :)

I take it the missile counts as the Hunter Killer - Seriously cool.

Cheers
