Libby on a bike

Okay, I've seen a neat little DV conversion where the libby's body is bolted onto the sergeants legs and bike, making a pretty neat looking result, but how sensible an idea, tactically, is it?

I'm thinking the extra mobility might be handy and the extra T point could be useful when screening him with a bike squad who he can lend mutual support to, but seeing as Librarian's have never been combat characters per se, is this a sensible idea or just daft on it's head?

Opinions?

I would say, particularly with the new psychic disciplines available, that a librarian can be a lot more diverse than in previous editions.

With the right powers, the extra mobility means you can have him where you need him to support the units you need him to. I would say a good points investment.

And the model would be sweeet! :pinch:

Codex powers such as Vortex are also interesting on a relentless (thanks to the bike) librarian.

If he's with a mounted command squad, they'll take care of the melee kill-factor and the libby may get FNP as well.

Cheers, Paul.

Something to consider is a librarian on a bike with a command squad with 4 plasma guns. Give him divination to reroll the plasma gun shots. You get FnP against perils and you get jink saves in the open against AP1-3 Weapons. This makes for a devastating mobile fire support unit. You can also give them Power Axes/Swords to give them more melee effectiveness too. Just food for thought.

I asked the same question in another forum. ^^

The suggestion was: Take Divination and let a bike squad with many special weapons reroll to-hit.

Not in CSM. Divination is the one Discipline Librarians can't take, in the vanilla 'dex. It'll work with BA, though, and probably DA, as well.

That said, a Libby on a bike works as well as any other HQ on a bike, which is to say, not well all by his lonesome, but an excellent platform, if escorted with a bike unit, whether normal, or Command, kitted to support and complement him. It's really going to be about how you kit the squad he's with, and the Libby himself. If you set the Libby up for hunting MC's, and stuff him with a standard bike squad toting a couple of flamers, you're going to be disappointed by the overall performance. An MC hunter with a plasma escort, on the other hand, will complement nicely, as would a Libby tooled out to handle hordes, running with that flamer squad.

No.

It's a ridiculous idea.

Honestly, have you ever tried to keep a book open in a strong wind? Now imagine that you're moving as well!

*huffs*

((No, really, it's pretty effective for putting your librarian where you want him and giving him a little extra protection. Mobility is never a bad thing on any character!))

The two biggest boons to a Librarian on a Bike are the T5 and the extra mobility. Librarians are middling, at best, in combat. Without a stock Invulnerable, they used to exvaporate under the first S8 hit. T5 fixes that, though you still only have two wounds.

The extra mobility is key in lining up Beam shots, optimal placement for Novas, or for the Relentless USR when attempting to drop a Vortex of Doom on a target.

Thankfully, the Librarian is an IC and you can choose the squad he ends up with before deployment, but after selection of powers. You can design a specific role using Codex powers, or call an audible at the table and roll BRB powers. Then, just slot him where his powers best compliment a squad.

It's a good idea, mobility is always a boon and the Toughness 5 gives him some valuable extra resilience. I'll be running my biker Librarian once I give him the repaint he deserves :) I've not used him for a long time as it was hard to put him on the table after he could no longer be a Land Raider priced angel of death. I'll never forget the time he rolled up almost an entire Eldar army by himself so quickly that my opponent flounced off the table in a hissy fit... ;)

Well I can say that they are deffo useful in a squad of bikes, I fielded mine yesterday against necron a and they could never draw a bead on him. Vortex of doom did scatter and take out a deathwing terminator nearby but heh go that's what happens when you go meddling in the warp! Seriously though no close combat sheesh a bike squad ain't designed for cc. Unless u want to use them as a sacrificial unit to hold enemy units. But then why put a valuable hq in there. Hit and run the ravenwing forte!
