NovaScotius
Brothers, I was flicking through the FAQ earlier in preparation for a game against a friend on Wednesday, when I saw the entry about Njal's Runic Weapon saying (Stave) next to it. Having read through some posts and the rest of the FAQ, I'm satisfied that all Runic Weapons should be treated as 'Unusual' and are therefore AP3 and User's Strength. Having said this, I think that we may well see a shift towards Runic Axes being treated as Axes, Runic Swords treated as Swords etc. in the future. If this were the case, how would you look to equip your Rune Priests? I'm asking this as I have a part assembled Rune Priest sat on my desk looking at me, begging to be finished off. Obviously there are three main types of Rune Priest; Power Armoured, Runic Armoured and Terminator Armoured - in the hypothetical world where Runic Weapons were not "Unusual", what would you equip them with? Res Ipsa Loquitur
Really depends on what unit you plan on attaching them to and what wargear (if any) that unit leader (if any) is carrying. WG Vrox
A Rune Priest really is not equipped to enter CC and with an Int of 4, he does not have much of an advantage using a normal PW. If I were to consider a CC oriented RP he would need to be in TDA for the added protection and invulnerable save. Wolf Tooth Necklace to hit on a 3+ and because the Runic Weapon is a force weapon I would go with an Axe get the +1 Str to help with my to wound roll and the AP 2 to hopefully bypass any 2+ save. Brom MKIV
Id definitely go with a force axe although I do face crons and orks so a stave might be ok too I suppose. Overall though I like the s5 ap2 with 4 atts for sheer killy and let the wolf guard in tda take challenges. narf
ive been using a runic staff, mostly as that is how my model has been built since the codex came out. i'm happy with a St6, ap4 weapon, and the people i play against are fine about it, and so was the tourny i went to at the weekend (and yes i asked the organisers, and each opponent) Rune priest are now far better in combat, as unless they are on their own or challenged they cannot be picked out of a unit. the insreased strength, and Ws5 means he usually hits on 3's, wounds on 2's, yes some things get saves, but when they fail, i can still force weapon them to death if they are multi wound. I'd rather have increased chance of causing a wound through higher strength, than not allowing an armour save. narf
because i still like the initiative bonus of not having an ax, it works really well against MC's as few high a better initiative than 4 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/261687-runic-weapons-are-unusual/#findComment-3187463 Share on other sites
Rev. Tiberius Jackhammer
Rune Lance.Since Njal has a "Stave" instead of a "Maul", it looks like Runic Weapons will use Force Weapon categories, and Force Weapons don't have Lance as an option, for some bizarre reason. Yup, as well as the frost weapons only have a 'blade' or 'axe' option:( Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/261687-runic-weapons-are-unusual/#findComment-3187943 Share on other sites
Rev. Tiberius Jackhammer
Yup, as well as the frost weapons only have a 'blade' or 'axe' option:(Yeah, annoying that they decided that each divergent type of Power Weapon needed to have its own individual profile. Instead of defining Frost Axe/Sword, why not just say it gives +1S over the typical PW? :( Same goes for Relic Blades, Sang. Swords, Force Weapons, damn annoying.
