Do we have any news on the new codex? ive had a look at our latest and last one and think its about time we have one let alone deserve one im mainly wondering this as im starting to get a very nice sized army and would like to know what new kits i will be ''allowed by codex to buy''

My suggestion is this, don't buy anything new right now.

Here is my reasoning.

1. If you have a nice sized army right now there is, theoretically, no real need of anything.

2. We do not know what units will be worth their price, fun or really even look good.

3. Assuming the models released for us are similar to the ones in Dark Vengeance, I'm betting most will want to wait so they can actually have Deathwing terminators, instead of terminators painted like Deathwing.

4. The codex is, ideally and very likely, only 2-3 months away. Give or take a month. Patience will pay out with all these answers.

Now I imagine if you're intent on spending money you can go wrong with the basics, Tactical Squads, HQ choices. I just recommend you refrain from our "special"(?) choices.

Hope this helps in whatever way.

Hq - all DV DA hq choices, Termie chaplain, Sammeal (ravenwing battleforce model) Belial (under construction).

Elite - 5 x Vets unbuilt, 2 AOBR dreads, 1 FW Ven Dread with mortis autocannons, 30 maybe 35 DW termies.

Troops - 40 (soon to be 60) marines all with plasma gun and plasma cannon options per 10 men, 1 x drop pod.

Fast - Raven wing Battleforce, 6 DA RW bikes (2x3 DV versions)

Heavy - 1 Land raider (Giod Hammer configuration)

as you can see i dont need much more troops, might expand my force of DW termes though, i was wondering do DA players use Vindicators much? what do you find the DA seem weak against and what can i counter that with?

You have a good amount of DA there. Dont build all the PA marines as tactical... you will need devastators too...

40 PA marines is already too much now. You will use mainly DW...

However wait for the codex... some says january... some february or even march... but usually after a PA codex there is not another PA one so it could end that next codex will be chaos demons and then DA. In this case we will wait until june or july...

We will see... i am not so much sure we will be the next codex... i guess we have to wait 6 months or more...

First thing to consider in these uncertain times is that magnets are your friends. When you magnetize weapons and arms you have the flexibility to change your army with a new codex.

If you want to paint up a bunch of power armored marines just leave the squad and company markings off until you know how you want to organize your army.

With the ability to take allies a lot of interesting doors are opened up to us. If you want to paint up a Dark Angels Stormraven then go ahead! Just because your allies are using the Blood Angel or Space Marines codices doesn't mean that they need to be painted as Blood Angels or other marines. Just don't use the Space Wolf codex. That would just be plain wrong! :D

can you explain this allies system to me please?

For each primary detachment in your army (one at 1,999 points or less; up to two at 2k plus) you can take one allied detachment, which cannot be chosen from the same codex as your primary detachments. But, the allied contingent doesn't have to actually be the same as the codex it's chosen from - e.g. you could do a DA successor chapter based on the Blood Angels codex if you want access to BA goodies for your Unforgiven army.

If you're looking into heavy support choices, then Vindicators will always find a place in every Space Marine army. Whirlwinds or kind of a specialist choice; I have one but have rarely used it. Instead of buying rhinos, get razorbacks instead. They come with the top piece to allow for easy conversions between rhinos and razorbacks, allowing you more flexibility.

i dont think rhinos or razorbacks are much of an option as ill rarely be using 5 man teams unless its vets at that though they will be in LRs and my only other 5 man team is DW termies.

But thankyou your input Brother Kovash it is much appreciated.

I am hoping that the new codex is sooner rather than later, and would not be surprised to see it released next (allowing space for 'Hobbit'-related output of course too). I don't see why GW would feel the need to wait too long as surely they will be wanting to pick up on the Dark Angels related good-will generated by the release of Dark Vengeance? But, since we don't really know, it is just a waiting game - it's not like we haven't waited long enough already...

As for the Razorbacks, I would definitely consider them. They are still useful when using tacticals and combat squads. I like to place the Seargeant and special weapon in the Razorback with the heavy weapon-tied five-man squads in the back-line (holding objectives). When used together the back-line holding combat squads can slow down hard-hitting assaulting units and give you time to surround them and open fire with the double-tapped bolters. This worked well for me against Thunderwolf cavalry and Blood Angels recently.

The Razorbacks can then push forward with your remaining squads to take objectives further afield. Use the troops to screen the Razorbacks from close assault, and use the twin-linked guns to take out flyers (I have twice dropped a Storm-Raven using Las-Cannons in this way). The Razorbacks can alos act to choke narrow areas of the terrain, funneling the enemy through. Accept that you will lose the odd one and you will be fine.

That said, I would think twice against Necrons and haywire grenades - but you can't have it all, it seems! :D

I'm "meh" about a new Land Speeder. I'd rather have a new flyer. I'm being very pessimistic about the Dark Angels codex these days and about whether or not we'll even see it this year.

Chaos comes out the first week of October, and even though there are rumblings that GW has accelerated the release schedule, I can't see them releasing all the new kits for Chaos over a three week period, then release the DA Codex right before The Hobbit release in December. There are also rumors of a new Fantasy Army Book before the year ends as well.

A far, far more likely scenario would be Chaos being the last 40K Codex this year, with the Dark Angels coming out sometime next spring after a Fantasy Army Book release. :) The year of 40K? Yeah, right.

I don't think that's actually a Land speeder, it's just that the fuselage of the fighter resembles a Land speeder's...

For Chaos, I don't think that was has been shown is all the kits they will have, it's just kits for all the new stuff, so that their butts are covered in case there's a need to file lawsuits. We may see more Chaos stuff later. I thank that something very similar could actually be done before Christmas for the DA as well.

Who says all of the new chaos models have to be released before we see our dex? It makes no sense to wait with all the possible profit to be made on DA. The DV set has other named characters with no points values, new players brought in would lose interest without one. Alternating releases between the 2 makes more sense all the way around. No company can be that stupid.

edit: Clarify phrasing.

DAG42, not sure if that was directed toward my comments or not, but just in case...

To clarify, I wasn't saying that all the Chaos stuff needs to come out now. Business-wise, it makes sense to hold off on some old stuff that's just being resculpted (if anything is) so you can get people to buy older stuff now, but possibly get some new sets later as well. I was saying that to avoid litigious situations, they are probably just rushing all the "new units" out the door to cover their bases. Then they won't have situations come up where "I'm sorry, but a drawing in a book doesn't protect copy-right for a sculpture/model" occurs (if that was actually factual).

I just think the new release mode for GW will be "all the new units we don't already have models for" get released first, and re-sculpts may come out half a year to a year plus down the line.

No Bryan, I think there was a couple. Was just in general. My appologies if it came out that way.

But has anyone noticed on page 138 of this months WD the back cover of the book Dan Harden is holding? It's not the back of my rule book picture. New dex? Or something else I haven't seen? Does anyone know or care to guess? lol.
