What I want and expect from Dawn of War 3

I recently heard that Dawn of War 3 is confirmed and is in the pre-concept phase, basically the bedrock of creation so there's a lot of talks going on around I bet within the company as to what to do to bring back the ass-kickery that made Dawn of War 1 so successful.

Here's what I think. We all know that the Blood Ravens are Relic/THQ's baby but now that we have a new chapter master and their home sector is saved, there really isn't much more we can get out of them. I'm thinking it's time to take Dawn of War out of racial campaigns and singular story lines and take it into the galactic scale. The galaxy is so open and rich with lore that I think they should start creating open ended campaigns within the overall campaign mode so that multiple warzones can be active at one time and offer benefits to your personal force (sort of like Dawn of War 2 campaign) to add an RPG element and customization to your battle company, imperial regiment, hive swarm, craftworld host, what have you. I am expecting the ability to either pick from an established faction and known characterized force such as Dark Angels Space Marines, Night Lords Chaos Legion, Tyranid Hive Fleet Kraken, Craftworld Lugganath Eldar, or what have you; or create your own force from a selection of backstory choices, homeworld, planet type, and other prudent information about your force.

I dunno. I think it's a great place to start for the richness of the backround.

For the more competitive multiplayer gameplay, I'm thinking that they should open up the multiplayer gameplay much like the campaign allowing constant battles taking place in all different warzones across the segmentums, rewarding your victories with resources and such things as technology, fuel, ammunition, slaves, whatever it may be that the objectives you conquered yield. Something like that will give the player the sense of eternal war, something that is so easily lost in traditional multiplayer.

They did have a poll on the DoWII community forum a while back about which chapter they (the community) wanted in DoWIII, and if memory serves me I think the Black Templars won it just with the Space Wolves coming in a close second.

There is also rumours about the armies being customisable, but that could be people guessing about what they want.

But I do think that they won't be using Blood Ravens any more, tbh I'd like to seen them expand a current but unwritten about chapter and maybe have a lesser-used chaos legion as the 'bad guys'.

But I'm sure they won't dissapoint.

Although i'd LOVE Red Corsairs in there I doubt it.

What i'd love is a sandbox campaign.

Here's a galaxy, a techtree, worlds and go at it...

You pick the faction you play, the chapter and you go from there. I'd love that.

Though I suppose some sort of 'storylinked' campaign somewhere in it is a must for the average gamer.

From what was going around the DoW2 forums some months ago, DoW3 was/is going to be a Hybrid of DoW1 and DoW2 I.e. Some base building but same game mechanics as CoH2/DoW2 (things such as 'Truesight' and cover vaulting will more than likely find their way into DoW3)

As has been mentioned there is supposed to be more customization to the armies, like the DoW2 SP. Aside from that, there isn't going to be much info until CoH2 is getting on in its life.

Well Dark Millenium will be more to your fancy then for that, since its no longer an MMO (due to THQ's money problems, Vigil changed tac). Its going to be something akin to the Elder Scrolls but with MP as well. That will be one to watch for.

That is good news, their money probs are not. But I do like the idea of the SP rpg game approach.

Say what? This just keeps getting better and better.

Aye, it was announced here that it was changing to be more RPGish.

As for DoW3 I remember/found (again) some early details.

Upcoming real-time strategy game Dawn of War III will allow gamers to build their own custom armies, developer Relic has revealed.

The full context can be found here

They should go back to DoW I, IMO. DoW II was awful.

I just want it to be like Command and Conquer, but with 40k IP.

Yes please.

Alternatively I'd accept a mode similar to Total War with a world (or in this case galaxy) map, and then a separate battle map. Online mode you could play a campaign or single battles.

Would like to focus on single player AI(Don't care about MP), more customizable SM force, a correctly represented SW force and all the races from DoW 1.

Hopefully they will add a feature that allows you to change the AI opponents "Army List".

As they mentioned customizable armies, that is...

I vote for this. Though to be fair, as long as they allow reasonable modding capabilities, I'm sure someone will mod the AI to be less god-awful.
