Flying with style - Eagles Eternal Thunderhawk Gunship

Recommended Posts

Another Commission for 9K painting, a Forge World Thunderhawk for a client here on B&C

This kit is enormous, and I'm looking forward to painting it as it'll be one of the biggest models I've painted so far (my raver is the other huge model) and it will be painted in the dark blue colours of the Eagles Eternal chapter that some of you might know from another user here on B&C :D

For those who is not familiar with them, they are the same colours as the US marine corps parade uniform.

The pilots are slightly converted to fit in better with the new sm flyers as the ones supplied are frankly butt ugly...

Unfortunately this kit isn't the best quality wise, and I suspect it is because it needs remastering of the moulds, but the worst parts have been replaced by FW and the rest of the model will need a lot of love.

But I'm certain I can handle it :D

More pics soon, and now back to the pot of boiling water to straighten this bad boy out

yours actually looks like it's better quality than the one thats still sitting on my desk, waiting for replacements of the top and front of the hull for the third time currently heh. painting it is fun though!
" Objective secure, remain on station, seek and destroy targets of opportunity, Eagle 6 out."

The mechanicum division in charge of supplying this glorious vessel have been thoroughly instructed that it bear the designation 'Eagle one' :cuss

A quick update from the vaults of the mechanicus forge :D

Resin is very messy...

This is a huge model to say the least.

i'm confident that while prepping my thunderhawk, I shaved off enough resin that I could've had an extra squad of mk4 marines (and I mean a full 10 man squad :) )

It's one of those really cool miniatures, that's a complete :P to build. Looking forward to seeing how yours progresses!

Yeah it's all from the T-hawk, and I'm still not done shaving off flash... And the sheer weight of the gates from the casting process is ridiculous there's almost a kilo of extra resin... But it's an experience and I'm getting paid to do it so can't really complain XD The escorts for this guy should arrive today or tomorrow too, bt they shouldn't be nearly as hard to build as they are just standard GW storm talons :)

Just a quick update, the escort have arrived!

The talon is actually a really well engineered kit despite its obvious beauty problems ;) But nothing that can't be fixed :)

Here's a few pics of the proposed changes, now we'll just need the approval of the Lord Commander and the mechanicum will proceed with the building :P

Big bird is making trouble and sheding his primer, but only in a few places so I suspect it's due to me switching between cans in the middle of priming and not having shaken the new can well enough, I'll try touching up with some ab primer instead to see if that works :)
Fair enough. Would love to some more progress pictures. :P
This is one hell of an undertaking. Will be awesome to see the Thunderhawk fully painted.

I'll get some progress pics up of the t-hawk build soon :P And it seems I've overcome the primer problem (hopefully) so painting might commence asap :D

That blue is awesome! How did you do it?

It's all airbrush work ;) Old GW Regal blue base coat, shade black wash, higlight VMC azur blue, wash all the blue in vallejo blue wash and edge higligt with 1/5 VMC sky blue and VMC azur blue ;)

That is awesome, I knew it would look good but that surpassed my expectations!

Thanks man, glad you're satisfied so far, can't really decide if I should make some light weathering on them as I like them alot in their clean state as well :)

They do look nice with the clean look.

I tried to find those paints in my local gaming store, but I realise that there not games workshop line now. What does vmc stand for?

VMC= Vallejo Model Color. Best acrylic figure paints that have been made...

Hope this helps. Love the chapter by the way.
