Clarification on the Aquila

I understand that only the Emperor's Children were permitted to bear the double-headed eagle, but what about the other winged motifs like the skull with wings? Did other chapters have permission to anything with wings, as long as it wasn't the double-headed eagle?

Thanks!

The imperialis (winged skull) was used by the loyalists after the onset of the heresy as a army badge denoting loyalist status, during the siege of Terra the defenders of the palace wore the aquila denoting loyalty to the emperor.

Thanks all for the replies; indeed I'm curious as I'm doing a Pre-Heresy/Fallen DA army, and I want them to be at least reasonably fluff-accurate ;)

A D-B: Any chance you could share some of that with me? I'm not going to buy a book just for a tiny excerpt of fluff.....

i still can't get over your screen name, it makes me laugh every time.

Uh. My initials? What a squillion people call me?

on a more serious note, when you say something like that, knowing we can't even order it yet, it's like rubbing salt in a wound.

Not intentionally. I don't have my copy here with me, so I'm reluctant to explain it. It's a hint for the many people with the book to post an explanation.

yes, i've noticed that there seem to be very few people answering questions or just dumping loads of info as there normally is with any new release, it's like the first people in line were the ones who don't have internet connections or are just greedy... or maybe the book is just so good they can't find time to tell anyone else about it. their noses are still glued to the pages.

as for the screen name, i realize it's your initials, it's just... well... wholly inappropriate to say here i'm afraid.

Perhaps then enlighten us as to the process of a product that appears to be ready but isn't being released yet? I assume there is a reason for delaying the release that isn't secret?

Probably they're still printing a vast stock of them so that they arent released 50 at a time and therefor always sold out... You'll have an initial print run, and limited stocks, but then you get anotehr couple of runs, ship the stock to your various suppliers/warehouses in other continents, then, when all the stock is spread out for your customers to actually buy the darn stuff, you can put it out on general release......

Or at least thats what it seesm like to me........

Is it delayed? I thought it was just on pre-release at Games Day. Is there a delay?

I don't know, I don't work in Forge World, let alone in their scheduling or customer services departments.

I like your tone, though.

EDIT: I really don't know the release date. Scout's honour.

For really reals.

I dunno, dude. It's never come up once before in 4 years of forumming, and it's not on the first 7 pages of Google (unless it's... Asian Development Banking? Android Debug Bridge tools?) so I think we're probably safe.

no, no, i meant it would be inappropriate for me to post what i thought it meant the first time i saw it, not that you're doing anything wrong, i mean, heck, it's your name.

is it possible that the lack of a massive info drop that we saw with say, 6th edition, is because it's FW, and HH, which are both sort of niche to some people still? maybe there just aren't as many interested parties? or maybe at gamesday they were only selling to really honest, upstanding people who promised not to spill the beans? or maybe FW threatened their families if they said anything, who's to say?

but seriously, this book is out, in people's hands, granted a relatively small-ish number, but we are seeing as much if not more hard info for the chaos codex, which isn't for sale yet, and i could almost care less about, because i can't afford to do HH and a new 40k army, and HH won out in the coin toss.

If ever you give up writing you should consider a career in politics, you have obfuscation down pat. FW say it's a few weeks away, so be it, I'm just surprised (irked?) that I can't at least pre-order so that I can have some dates to work with. Yeah, I'm a sad person who lives vicariously through tiny lumps of resin.
