Wolf priest on ebay

Hi all, I found this on ebay.

It would seem to be a recast (especially at this price) so I have two questions:

1. Would you buy it and risk the model being a load of rubbish?

2. Does he need reporting for recasting a model (even if it is OOP)?

" Q: Hi is this metal or resin model?

A: Good day! Most of our lots is a high quality resin. A couple of years ago, closed shop involved in refining the existing models of the GW " <-- at the bottem of the page

If you want it then buy it. It may warp easier compared to it's metal counter parts.

Don't report him because it's a recast, he's in russia and will just keep making new accounts to get around the bans. At least he is offering us a cheaper means of getting this miniature than the over priced metal version.

Your free to report it to GW legal, they have a link on there site somewhere

I'm not trying to start an argument but why would you report him? Just buy the model and never speak of that again. Even if it is illegal its cheaper and nobody has to know. In an ideal environment and world this guy SHOULD be reported. But there is no such thing as a perfect society. Plus GW is GW. Anything that helps your pocket is your friend. I've never done something like that but if I were you I would buy it with no regrets. Just saying.............
And if all the money spent on models that GW have paid someone to create for them actually went to GW then perhaps tehy might ahve abit more money to pass on by way of making new models... Report his stealing backside - make life a bit more difficult for the thieving so-and-so.

Yah, they're not gonna catch him if he's operating out of Russia.

He'll be in business so long as he has customers.

But, on a side note, if anyone does buy it, please post a review if convenient! The picture make it looks very good, but could easily have been a metal figure with grey primer over it.

If multiple Legions made a stronger Imperium,

Wouldn't multiple casters make a stronger Wargame?

Capitalism and competition and all that?

For Russ!

See, I would agree with that IF GW allowed figures from other manufacturers, which would then lead to a very diverse selection and a very open market (although not a very uniform battlefield). Battletech, for example, opens up to conversion and using differing mech, so you'll see Heavy Gears and CAV models converted with Battletech weaponries, and they'll be their own unique chassis, making for a huge variety of models.

However, tis not the case with GW (who, if I recall, won't let you use their LOTR models during certain events, due to it potentially causing them IP issues, if I remember correctly?), and in this case, unless these recasters are top-notch, ex-Games Workshop professionals gone Rebel Alliance, these guys are, more often than not, recasting in rusty tin, melted resin, or even dental plaster.

It'll be like more like Legions of mutants blood-sucking marines with Astartes-scale tourettes, making for a weaker Imperium...

As for reporting him, do so if you feel you feel morally compelled to, and if your hands are cleaner than his. Me, I shall not cast the first stone... :)

OT- side note, does GW still specify how much of a miniatures has to be Citadel at a tournament? I know in the past, Golden Daemon and what not had to be 70% Citadel or something, is that still in effect? Or is it more strict, where a single pistol holster, if they notice it's not GW or sculpted by you, will get you disqualified from a competition or have your model removed from play? I know this was an issue when it came to Thunderwolves for us, so I figured I'd ask a quickie rather than start a new topic.

If it were any other Type of model, I would say report him in a heartbeat.

However this is a recast of an old games day promo model that is now out of print which typically goes for $60 US on eBay. The only way to get these now are second hand. Buy it at your discretion and enjoy your bad ass mini

Im the other way, if it would be any other than this one i wouldnt care, this is a piece of history that should be in the hands of old gamers and true SW fans. Not just thrown out there for all to take and (ab)use.

In a way I agree with your views Max, but also realise that their may be people who really want the mini but cant fork out the $60 for it,

Games Workshop used to (dunno if they still do) sell old Games Day models at newer Games Day, did they not?

That in itself reduces the exclusivity of it, if it's true And also, you wouldn't be able to tell if the model you look at is fake or not. So long as yours is real, that really is the only direct repercussion this could have on you. If you think about it, no matter how fresh or good the casting is, or how high quality the resin is, the original white metal is still the real deal and its collectible value will be unaffected (nigh even go up if the fakes become popular) so long as its the original. That would be an issue if there was NO WAY to tell the real from the fake, but now we know one is resin and one is metal, and the GW metal is usually too high a quality for independent re-casters to replicate.

Also, for all you Finecast-loving swines... you could argue that since that model was made only in metal, having a resin cast allows your models to be all uniform in your army. Now, they can still have that cool model and still have a metal-free army... a sickening thought, no doubt. :D

If only someone online were able to recast all the new Finecast and all the original stuff in that same white metal Workshop used to have... now HIM, I would do business with! ^_^

Just FYI, I've bought from this guy before and never received anything from him.

EDIT -Actually it may not be the same guy because this one has only been an Ebay member for three weeks but it all looks awfully similar to the guy who jipped me.

actually, it would be pretty funny if the guy just took the metal model and based it grey to take the photo just to scam someone
