Painting white with the new citadel paint range

Recommended Posts

Before the avalanche of "USE SEARCH" I've been doing the layering method over black primer and getting ok results, however I'm out and am going to buy the new paints. Has the new paint range changed how white is painted with the new white ceramite base coat, or is it still best to use a base of something like Administratum grey and then layer up to white?

Any extra help and or tips to painting white would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

i've just started using a great way for my white chaos marines. i prime them with white using krylon fusion matt white (it has a very fine spray. then i make up a wash using lahmian medium, dawnstone grey and a little bit of the old necron abyss (tiny bit) its a very thin wash. i do a medium layer all over the model and a heavy layer on particularly contrasting bits. i also pick of ht really recessed areas with nuln oil. once thats dry i do a zenithal spray. this is where you take the model and spray from the intended light source (ie above) in a spray thats gentle enough to just cover the top read, ie where the light would hit, i've got very pleasing results and all with very low effort. to get an idea of how the zenithl spray works take a black model and try to spray white from the top, look at the effect you get.

Ceramite White will usually go over Black in 2-3 coats in a 50/50 ratio with water (I assume it would be the same with Lahmian Medium) but beware of the paint splitting if you thin it with water, had this happen to me a couple of times ;)

But it is simple fact that the best way to get a clean, smooth White is to base White :)

Best of luck ;)
