Cheers fellas, I'm glad to have tried my hand at more realistic painting methods. I normally go for more cartoony / comic books styles so this has been a nice break. I've finished my Terminator squad now too,

Yeah I think the weathering looks great, man. There's definitely more of a method to it than others will let on.

 

Tis is true. Its not as easy or as fast as most people believe. But if you can take the time to do it right, it looks really good. Generally Light armor colors should have dark Metal "boltgun metal" damage showing and Dark Colored models with Light Metal "Minthril silver"damage showing. Or yo ucan just highlight all the way up like i do, because I got OCD about this kind of thing.

Yeah that's how did it, I found it easier to get the results on the lighter colours I was a bit concerned about how well it would come out on the deep purple (space truckin!). Also if the Mithril silver is too bright you can give it a wash of Brown. to tone it down a bit.

Cheers mate, it's a good little kit, if a bit pricey. But hey, my Blood Angels like their mkIV priest so it was worth it. Just finished a third Emperors Children Tactical marine.

Next up, I've managed to cannibalise a 5 man mkIII squad for a plasma support squad. 4 plasma death! Then I think depending on the bank balance I'll beef the 2 tac squads up to 10 men squads so that I can field this as a HH army rather than a very weak C:SM / C:CSM army.

Brother Duncs paints in a more normal, what he refers to as "cartoony" style. Okay, the results look great. Now, Brother Duncs incorporates some weathering methods into this new style that is much more graphic and lifelike. It looks freakin spectacular.

Haha Cheers mate, glad you like em. I think the grittier look of these guys fits the 30k aesthetic better than 40k. At least my DIY chapter would look awful with this much weathering : )

I've never used weathering powders before ut have been thinking of trying them with my Salamanders, any advice?

Many thanks Pingo can I say your space wolves are looking damn fine.

Rune Priest I've not used weathering powders before, I've always wanted to but I've not yet fully understood the process. All the effects on these guys have been achieved with normal paints and the texture paint from GW. To get decent clumps I used a sponge and attacked around the feet and the lower greaves to get the impression of traipsing through mud. Hope that helps mate.

The weathering looks especially nice on the last fella. How exactly are you doing it? The sponge technique?

Hiya, I've nearly completed my Plasma Squad. Just a few little details and they're ready to go.

 

@Darth Potato : Yep, using the sponge technique but because of the darker armour I'm using Runefang Steel instead of Leadbelcher for the chipping. Leadbelcher doesnt show up quite as well with darker armours.
