Bolters of the siege of terra

While I do love the forgeworld designs and patterns of boltguns they have to offer I find it a hard pill to swallow shelling out almot $18 for ten bolters. Would it be acceptable or feasible to use the plastic bolters from the space marine tac squad on my HH marines??? or should I shell out the cash and bite the bullet and go with the older marks forgeworld sells.?

I would say it is entirely up to you, brother. If you feel regular bolters will suffice, then so be it. Anyone who complains can go make his own army if he feels so strongly over the issue. If you think FW bolters are the way to go, then, again, so be it. It's your army. I doubt the difference will matter much to anyone but yourself, brother.

Personally I think you can get away with using them for the entire Heresy, the original armour fluff article (WD129) had the MkV & VI using the RTB01 'umbra' pattern boltgun but had the MkIV using the same design as the MkVII - presumably the RTB01 gun was mean't to be a stripped down simplified wartime design like the MkV armour. The modern plastic design was effectively a retconned in replacement for the original MkVII gun design - I see no reason why the retcon shouldn't be applied to MkIV as well, it would certainly explain why chaos plastics have nothing but the design (having gotten the lions share of MkIV before the heresy, they'd have gotten the lions share of the new boltguns too). Admittedly FW have now brought out the Tigrus pattern, but to me that looks no more like the old design than the Godwyn pattern does.

I think i read that the plastic bolter (Godwyn?) in the space marine and chaos kit was introduced during hte heresy, so it's fine to use; it's design was just a facelift of the 2nd edition bolter. It's the same thing it just got updated when the plastic marines came out
