New Citadel range + SM and drybrush

Hi guys. I'm new to the forum and fairly new to 40k. I haven't painted much recently and my older Fantasy and LotR armies were never done to a spectacular standard. Now I am set on building a Blood Angels army to the best of my abilities, and have been messing painting 'test models' of assault marines with the new citadel paints, trying to get back into the groove of things and keep it all uniform with the new paints and not mix much.

So, as for my question. Where do the 'drybrush' color come into play for marines? I am thinking that a space marine being painted to a nice standard does not need a drybrush, but my main concern is where the actual color comes into play in the range. In other words, if I skip the drybrush, will the final highlight be too bright? I'm using the GW guide of colors. Mephiston red, Carroburg crimson, evil sunz scarlet, wild rider red, kindleflame is the drybrush, and then bloodletter glaze.

Should I incorporate this color into my color scheme or is it safe to leave it? If not, is there something to take its place?

I'm just trying to get it right this time and have an army to be proud of.

One more thing I would like to ask for advice on is how to paint large flat surfaces, such as the top part of a jump pack. I've got the basecoat, shade, and next layer down, but is this something that needs another highlight because I'm not sure where it would go and if it would look silly or not (actually I tried another layer, it looked silly)

The final highlights are still something I need to acquire an eye for but I hope that will come in time.

Anyways, I'd appreciate any tips very much, and if nothing else at least I got myself all pumped up and thinking about painting LOL.

at most i've used the drybrush stage to give extreme highlights on raised edges - usually i skip it altogether on normal colours. i use it more on metalics as it pext them to have an extra level of sheen/brightness, again though generally i only dry brush the top of edges where the light would catch the greatest, not he whole metal area.
