Nightmare84
Sorry if been asked didnt come up in a search...So I finally bought a copy of IA:11 so I can use bran and was just wondering how everyone is using him? Out flank with wolves seems fun but I love the out flanking hunters and wont outflank 2 units and soo many points. So I was thinking, inside the outflanking hunters with banner, motw, 2xplasma.. And just what is everyones thoughts on bran in a transport or outflanking. Does he still roll for redmaw so he may actually enter the game as redmaw? Grimtooth
I am pretty sure that if Bran ever becomes legal for 40k, he will be an auto include in every list. Bearingtheword
I am using him to great effect. I am HQ heavy on my list tho with a Rune Priest leading a group of Grey Hunters on foot using Brans "Patient Hunters" SR, a Wolf Priest with SoH leading another pack of Grey Hunters, along with Bran and a pack of Fen wolves using his SoH, all coming in from reserve. I also have some Swiftclaws led by another Wolf Priest with Saga of the Wolfkin, to make Bran's wolf escort that much better, another small pack of Grey Hunters with a Razorback as a backline objective holder/fire support unit, a pack of Long Fangs with a Razorback as well, a dreadnought, and last but not least a Predator Destructor (that has more than earned its points back. I keep Bran and his wolves, the Rune Priest and his pack, and the Wolf Priest and his pack all in reserve. All the rest start on the board. I am amazed at how much damage, and how much it can wreck your opponents plans when you have 3 units that can re-roll where they come in from, and one of those units can even come in behind his lines. I've had a couple games where my opponents have done well at the start and get cocky until I arrive in their backfield and tear stuff up. My only complaint is the lack of any kind of armour save for The Redmaw. You have to dance him and his escorts in and out of cover to get the bonus from Stealth otherwise you burn through your ablative Fen wolves very quickly. If FNP was still 4+, instead of the 5+ base it is in this addition, it would be a little better. I keep hoping they will errata it over at Forge World but no luck yet.... Anyhow, he is a blast to play! Have fun with him! ~BtW Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/262058-bran-redmaw/#findComment-3191287 Share on other sites

Elazar The Glorified
Sagas on special characters don't count towards the limit. You can have Logan, Bjorn, Njal and a Wolf Lord with Saga of the Majesty in the same list because you've only picked it once. The FAQ says "no two independent characters may bear the same saga, nor may they bear the same psychic powers or wargear combination" and the codex says the same thing but characters not independent characters. last time i checked bran and a wolf or rune priest are independent characters so can't have the same saga. Sorry bearingtheword i just thought i better piont that out. I play bran redmaw as thats my great company and it would be cool to use another grey hunter pack to outflank. But if you look at the rules nothing is stopping you to outflank with a grey hunter pack with bran, except fluff which is why i don't. I'm a bigger buzz kill than sir buzzkillington :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/262058-bran-redmaw/#findComment-3191433 Share on other sites

Bearingtheword
@GunnerRed No worries, mate. I have had that discussion with my opponents before and had to pull out the codex and show them the page dswanick listed a few times. I am actually considering trying out a pack of Grey Hunters outflanking with Bran instead of the Fen wolves just to see the differences. Though I'd never get rid of my Fen Wolves packs as they are just too "fluffy" (Pun intended) to not use. How large is the pack of Fen wolves that you are running with Bran? Also, Could you share some of your thoughts and tactics on how you use him? I'm always cyrious to see what others are doing and learn from them, and I'm sure it would go along way towards helping the OP. =) @Nightmare84: Work up a list, or three, and then get together with some friends and try them out. It will definitely help you to fine tune it. But don't base your conclusions off just one or two games, as a string of bad rolls can make a great unit look like crap when it's not. You can also post lists up here on the B&C. There are so many great knowledgeable players here that can certainly steer you in the right direction. Brom MKIV
Your build looks good although you could add a wgpl with motw for max wolfiness. Bran doesn't roll to transform until he's on the board but inside a transport still counts. As for outflanking him in a transport I would say not worth it unless you keep his unit at 5 + bran to fit into a razorback for the extra fire power, so not usually worth it since a kitted rb is 75 pts = 5 more ghs + free special. The other options are either too expensive (LR) or bring no benefit (rhino). Lastly I know not everyone accepts fw rules but more and more people are accepting than in years past. Its just adds more options for each army, I've never personally meet a player who objected. The way it's worded makes it sound as if you roll starting on turn 2 whether or not he is on the board: "At the start of each of Bran's controller's Movement phase except for the players first turn, before moving units, Bran Redmaw's player must roll roll a D6...." To me, and the group I game, that is exactly like rolling for reserves. It happens at the start of the Movement phase before any other units are moved. Look at it this way, using GW's cinematic viewpoint they are using for 6th edition he transforms off camera while en route to the battlefield. Unless we missed something somewhere I'd say we have it right. But if we did, please point it out so we can correct it. (Please don't take that as being snarky, as it's not meant that way at all. We are curious if we did, in fact, miss something somewhere) I doubt I'd put him in any kind of transport but if I did it would only be if he was with a unit if Grey Hunters or Wolfguard, and then only in large Apoc games.... As for FW, i am thankful my gaming group is very open to FW stuff. It adds a lot more to the games even in those rare instances a unit could be considered slightly overpowered/ out of balance. ( And the bragging rights gained by winning games against those using the so-called "unbalanced" units is priceless) ~BtW Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/262058-bran-redmaw/#findComment-3192297 Share on other sites
Nightmare84
Yeah that's what had me confused the wording suggests its rolled from turn 2 no matter what. When I'm home will show what I was planning with the list. At the moment it's looking more mech based but it will turn into a foot list. Quick overview is for 1500 game Bran + 10x hunters banner, motw plasma Rune priest + 10x hunters banner, power axe and plasma. Motw 10 hunter melta, banner and rhino 6 long fangs with missiles 3 thunder wolves 2 Vindicators The vindis are my favorite tank and a beast on the field, brann uses his rule to out flank 1 hunter unit while he and other use saga to out flank another. Everything but fangs move up field and unleashes hell hopefully haha Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/262058-bran-redmaw/#findComment-3192330 Share on other sites
Bearingtheword
Yeah Vindi's are vicious... I'm having success with a pair of Laz-plas Razorbacks, but I am concerned with their lower AV, and had been giving some thought to trying some others...The issue has been the cost of getting a tank with some hitting power above Str 7, which the Laz-plaz 'backs provide. Please do post your list up, and keep us informed on how your games with them go B) ~BtW Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/262058-bran-redmaw/#findComment-3192357 Share on other sites
Brom MKIV
BtW- no offense taken brother id actually prefer transforming when not on the board. I'm away from my rules atm but iirc the language on transforming states to replace one model on the table with another, I took this to mean transforming in reserve was not intended. I hope I'm wrong though. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/262058-bran-redmaw/#findComment-3192370 Share on other sites
Bearingtheword
BtW- no offense taken brother id actually prefer transforming when not on the board. I'm away from my rules atm but iirc the language on transforming states to replace one model on the table with another, I took this to mean transforming in reserve was not intended. I hope I'm wrong though. Let's see.... that part of his rules reads: "Once Bran succumbs to the Curse he transforms into the Redmaw, replace the model with the Redmaw. The Redmaw enters play with the number of Wounds Bran Redmaw had when the Curse came into effect and with only the Wargear and Special Rules detailed on the Redmaw profile, he completely replaces Bran Redmaw and is not effected by any effects previously applied to Bran Redmaw by either friendly or enemy models. He remains a HQ choice for all purposes." There's no mention of on the table, or off the table, only that one model is replaced with the other. Our reasoning behind it being able to occur while still in reserves is that the earlier part of the rule says you start rolling for the Curse at the beginning of your movement phase on turn 2, and if he is in reserve he is likely to still be there turn two. As no designation is made specifically to on or off the table or in or out of reserves, but there is a specific designation on when to roll for it, the transformation could occur while still in reserve. Like I said, that's how my group play's it. It would be interesting to get a clarification on that and on whether the Redmaws FNP rolls are at 4+ (as that was the base) since the character was developed and released during 5th ed, or is 5+ (as the rules are now) for 6th edition. It's one of those things we discuss before the game starts and come to a consensus on, but it would be nice to have it clear cut. Anyhow it would be cool to share some ideas on how each of us fields Bran Redmaw and his company and perhaps help each other out a bit. ~BtW Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/262058-bran-redmaw/#findComment-3192397 Share on other sites
Brom MKIV
Apparently I'm the one who's been playing the transformation wrong, although it doesn't come up very often. Cool. As for FNP I've been going with 5+ but it would be lovely to find FW gives him a 4+. On a side note I use varghar of confrontation, absolutely love that model! dswanick
Hey guys, just sent Forge World an email with the following questions - My group and I have several questions regarding the Bran Redmaw IC, Imperial Armour 11, pg.127 1. Bran has Saga of the Hunter which would give him and Outflank and Stealth. The text for the special rule says "Saga of the Hunter gives him the Stealth special rule (+1 cover save). He (and any Fenrisian Wolves he is leading) may enter the table from Reserve using the Outflank special rules.". My question is - If Bran is joined to a pack (other than a Fenrisian Wolf Pack), does he have the Stealth and Outflank abilities? Or does he only get them if joined to Fen.Wolves? 2. Curse of The Wolfen states that the owning player start rolling for the change beginning turn 2. No mention is made if it is rolled if the model is off-board in Reserves. Do you roll for the Curse even if Bran is not on the table? 3. The Redmaw has no Save, but does have Feel No Pain. Is this Feel No Pain (4+) or Feel No Pain (5+)? I'll put up the answers if/when I get them. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/262058-bran-redmaw/#findComment-3192595 Share on other sites
Bearingtheword
That is awesome dswanick! Thanks for seizing the initiative there! B) @Brom MKIV, Not sure if I have seen that model or not. I had originally painted up a Reaper Jean-Luc DuChamps mini for mine but then someone here on B&C (Sorry brother, it's 6 am and your name escapes me) suggested using this model. It's pretty close to his supposed 12' foot size and looks great. I'm not sure I'm done with the painting of him yet, as the more I look at him the more I think he needs a darker feel. Size Comparison: It's the Hordes Warpwolf model. I do plan on picking up one of the FW skinwolves sometime in the future (Unless of course, FW finally put out a version of hin) for those rare times i might be playing somewhere that only allows "official" GW models to be used... If you have a pic of yours Brom, I'd love to get to see it. @Nightmare84 I hope we are helping you with your questions and with putting together your Company. =) ~BtW Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/262058-bran-redmaw/#findComment-3192631 Share on other sites
GunnerRed
I've only played with him once in 6th as i'm playing with my nids at the moment for rolling4sixes youtube channel. What I had in the list was Bran with 15 wolves 10 grey hunters with 2 meltaguns, wulfen, standard, power weapon and wolf guard with power fist and wolf claw (outflanking) wolf priest with 10 grey hunters with 2 plasma, W, S, PW and wolf guard with 2 plasma pistols and mark of wulfen wolf priest with 10 grey hunters with 2 plasma, W, S, PW and wolf guard with power fist and storm bolter 6 long fangs with 5 missile launchers It was a 1500pts game. Bran turned into redmaw on turn 3 and when he came on (we played it that you roll to see if he turned to redmaw even off the board). acute senses helped get bran and my grey hunters to where i wanted them to come in. I sent bran (or redmaw by this piont) to go after his sanguinary guard. The wolves took the brunt of the attack and redmaw came in and killed most of them (feel no pain helped the ones that lived) and the wolves helped finish them off. I never used brans weapon but would it count as a unusual power weapon so it would be AP3 and striking at his initiative? Nightmare84
So was 1000pt vs tyranids. Game ended in a 8-0 win, but the downside was bran did nothing. As he didn't really need to. Quick over view. I had bran, 2x 10 grey hunters. 1 were plasma. Other were melta. 1x vindicator, 6x long fangs. 3 x thunder wolves Tyranids were- flyrant, 12 genestealers with broodlord, 18 hormagaunts. About 12 termies. 2x biovore, 3x ravenerers. And a zoanthrope Everything went my way, I saw he was aiming his flyrant at my objective so bran hung out in the home squad. But the fangs somehow dropped two wounds and then he charged my thunder wolves and bounced off. And then my vindi dropped his plate right ontop of the genestealers decimating them so was just a case of mopping up the lurking nids Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/262058-bran-redmaw/#findComment-3193321 Share on other sites

Nice, I've had a game like that where Bran came in from reserves on the side where I had no opponents left and by the time he made it across the board the rest of the enemy were lying in pools of blood. Between my Long Fangs and Grey Hunters there were no Orks left.
