I was thinking about scenarios for alternate Chapters, and what the Black Templars would be getting up to on a space hulk. Sure, putting down filthy xenos is great, but what if they were there to clear out a Chaos coven? The standard genestealers could pretty easily replaced with cultists (from the DV set!) (would have to be some sort of super-cultist to be any danger in melee...) and/or possessed marines, and the broodlords could be Dark Apostles/Sorcerers. Might allow SM vs. Chaos to retain more of the feel of the original rather than just Terminator vs. Terminator.

Indomitus will be strictly (Chaos) Space Marine Terminators versus (purestrain) Genestealers. We're operating under the theory that Space Hulk works with the streamlined rules because it is a closed system. Adding hybrids and other opponents into the mix changes the whole dynamic, removing the streamlined rules. There's also the issue of the availability (or lack thereof) of Hybrid models. There will be an Indomitus expansion for the Grey Knights, but their enemies will change to some kind of Daemons. We'll also have the Long War expansion pitting Chaos Terminators versus loyalist Terminators. Both of these expansions will have slightly different rules because the interplay between the antagonists is different than that between (Chaos) Terminators and Genestealers. The Wrath of Angels project (to be conducted soon) will change the mix up, moving to power armoured Space Marines versus Orks, with expansions for the Sisters of Battle versus Cultists and Grey Knights versus some kind of Daemons, but those will have slightly different rules and effects because the dynamics between armies are different.

Players wishing to see the whole breadth of armies in cramped confines such as space hulks and what-not really ought to look at the Zone Mortalis rules, perhaps combining them with Kill Team (or a variation thereof).

However, we will definitely be exploring different Chapters as we develop campaigns/missions. I'm working on Imperial Fists for the initial Indomitus Long War campaign (Imperial Fists versus Iron Warriors) and I hope to see the Deathwing for the first campaign we develop (the update of the old 2nd edition missions/campaigns into 3rd edition rules). I can easily imagine Salamanders, Black Templars, and Space Wolves being featured in their own campaigns, as well as any other Chapters/Legions/warbands that other members would like to work on.

Added note about Hybrid models.

Cool - I totally understand that there's a lot of stuff to come before that particular idea (and rightly so), but it is a scenario I'd like to see eventually.

The "availability (or lack thereof) of Hybrid models" made me wonder: would this project develop any new models? I assume new board pieces and hallways/etc. will be made (maybe a more d.i.y. print and play type?), but actual models would be cool to see. I know the Terminators are pretty much up to the players to provide, but Chaos-specific artifacts would be cool to see.

No, we don't have a sculpting mechanism in place. The Hobby Book (when we get around to it) will explore ways that players can create their own minis for objectives and such, and will also cover how current models available from Citadel/GW/Forge World can be used. We'll probably create pictures that players can download, print, and mount to use as objective counters. I intend to convert suitable objective minis for the demonstration pictures, but not everyone has the time/resources for that, so we'll provide easy print and play options.

We had a hobbyist showcase as part of this project, but it has been merged into the larger Terminator Showcase topic in the PCA forums. As for batreps, simply use the Liber Victorum forum and use the following tags (in addition to any others that might apply based on the mission/campaign/armies):
  • Indomitus (only if you're using the Indomitus rules, of course
  • Space Hulk game
If members are playtesting missions, we'll have topics for each. For example, you can see the Mission I - Forcible Entry playtest discussion here (and members are free to add to that discussion if they conduct their own playtesting). If members begin working on their own missions/campaigns for the Indomitus project, I'll create playtest discussions as needed.
