New DIY Idea

So I have decided to model my chapter after the Iroquois Nation from the North East United States. I've already decided that their home world would be a forest planet inhabited by many tribes that are constantly vying for control of areas of the planet and it's animal resources. I also want their fighting style to be more sublte with ambushes and hit and run tactics. I can't decide which chapter I want for their primogenitor, Raven Guard would be good but the pigment problem is a bit of a turn off, the White Scars would also be good but I lean more towards a sleek infantry type force over fielding lots of bikes and speeders. No chapter name as of yet still thinking on it. Any thoughts would be helpful thanks.

Well, you could have them as a relatively young 'Scars successor Chapter who were promised a bunch of bikes, tanks and so forth by the AdMech, only for the shipment to be stolen/destroyed by pirates, leaving your chapter to adopt a more infantry-intensive approach.

They could get some bikes and tanks and so forth over time, but not ever recovering the lost supply of vehicles has left them using the stuff they have with caution, relying more on infantry strikes than armoured assaults.

If that doesn't fit your ideas, then feel free to ignore or discard my suggestion, it's just something I'm throwing out there.

Ace's suggestion is a really good way to work out a direct successor. My approach to what you want is usually to create an indirect successor, instead. For example, instead of being created directly by Raven Guard or White Scars, being created by a RG or WS successor. My reason for going that route is simply the obnoxiously long fluff leash. You can do a lot with your Chapter, diverging organizationally, theologically and even genetically and you can do it without fear of treading on the toes of canon. Will there still be things that beg to be justified, sure, but it will be easier. The only thing slowing you down with this method would be finding an appropriate successor, as a) not many are listed in GW canon and b)some of them are still pretty close to their parent Chapters as far as demeanor, beliefs and hierarchy.

Thanks for the input I am going to go with the White Scars as my primogenitor as I feel the tribal aspect is more closely related to what I want to do. Also I believe Messor is correct and a successor chapter is the way to go it will allow a little more freedom with how I want to portray my chapter. Ace I might use your idea in reference to my chapter being under strength and it could be part of the reason. Still working out some more of the details hope to have a rough draft of my IA up soon for some C&C. Thanks again.

Forest Stalkers

Stealth Hunters

Stone Guardians

You had an extra 'r' there in Forest Stalkers, don't know if that was intentional. Its not a bad name, though it would feel out of place if they were on any other battlefield besides something forested. Stealth Hunters sounds more like a designation for a unit than a whole Chapter, and comes off kind of...hm, cheesy I think is what I'm looking for. Your veterans might be aptly called Stealth Hunters, but I can't see it as a Chapter name. Stone Guardians is a really solid one though, easy to stick.

Well, there is always the option to have a chapter of unknown origin, giving you the flexibility to work around the gene-seed issues you wish. Additionally, you could do something around the dark angels (the cloke and dagger of them hunt for the fallen, as well as native american themes). Just a few ideas.

A dark angels army with that theme would be really cool, not to mention fitting in well with the hunt for the fallen. Plus they have the bikes of the raven wing, but they're a lot more optional than with White Scars.

After reading some of your comments I started to remember some of the fiction that I had read regarding the Dark Angels and they do sound like a better fit for me just due to the specialization of the Raven Wing and Death Wing allowing me to be stealthy and have that quick strike ability. Stone Guardians felt right to me as well and I just wanted some feed back thanks everybody.
