Erren
So, there's mention in several places that the Codex Astartes proscribes yellow tabards/robes for librarians. But I can't find any real discussion of why DA Librarians would be non-Codex on this. DA Librarians are wearing standard Inner-Circle robes in all the models going back to Angels of Death, but I wondered if anyone's painted yellow robes for their army or what people's thoughts were on the topic in general. I'm wrapping up my converted Space Hulk librarian, and can't decide if I want to go Bone or Yellow on his robe/tabard. Bryan Blaire
Basically all the markings the Dark Angels use are non-Codex, why would the Librarian robes be Codex-compliant, is my thoughts on it. Jehoel
Librarian's wear blue, where did you find any mention of yellow for them? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/262172-librarian-robes/#findComment-3193275 Share on other sites
Erren
Basically all the markings the Dark Angels use are non-Codex, why would the Librarian robes be Codex-compliant, is my thoughts on it. Most markings are non-codex, but not all. For instance, Librarians wear blue, Chaplains wear black, Techmarines wear red, Apothecaries wear white. If the DA Librarians are painting their armor to comply with the Codex, why wouldn't they match the robe, too? DA Librarians also use the same bottom-of-tabard markings for the ranks of Lexicanium, Codicier, and Epistolary. There's mention of the yellow robes in a few places, but one example would be the Insignium Astartes. I'll admit at this point I've done enough research that I'm fairly certain there's no explanation of it, the models were probably painted that way for Angels of Death without much thought and it's been that way ever since. Onisuzume
I don't think that DA Librarians wear yellow, since the Inner Circle's robe would override whatever robe/tabard they'd have from them being a librarian. Ezekiel seems to reaffirm that. As does the coloured section of our current codex. Harleqvin
There is that. It also depends on when you are having you DA. I think in "the Lion" the Libby was black armor with blue surplice/tabard. Also like you said, in C:AoD the DA libs were the normal bone white that most people use because that's what it's been since then. Lqtm. The yellow was on the BA libs in it and yeah the Ultramarine codex had yellow colored clothe, too. So it really comes down to your preference. If you want to go by what they have shown the DA libs having, go with bone white. If you want them to be more like BA or UM go with the yellow. Or make your own color if you like it more. Don't think it's done "without much thought" but rather with a lot of thought behind it. I've never seen a mention of a DA Librarian with a yellow robe/tabard (or a depiction of one), but that's beside the point (I'll admit to not having seen/remembering every little detail). The DA Librarians are very specifically mentioned as members of the Inner Circle, previously being stated as being directly inducted into the Deathwing upon membership in the Librarium. It's mentioned that it is the DA highest levels that you see the deviation from the Codex at and the highest level, the Inner Circle, contains the Librarians. They would wear their robes specifically to denote their membership in this non-Codex organization, to me that means the bone color. Now, will you see this specific explanation in text? Not likely. The really don't seem to want to write a lot of specific detail about the Dark Angels, letting the pictures of miniatures and images in the Codex speak for themselves. (Personally, I've never really liked that all the DA specialists wear the Codex armor colors, almost everything else they use is non-Codex, why keep those?)
