Vindicare Assassin 1000 points

Are Vindicares worth it at 1000 points? I'm asking because it wouldn't seem like there'd be that many big targets that I'd need him in order to take out. I was thinking of getting one, but I don't have that many models to play in big games where he'll be useful. What point limit would he be best at?

I would make my guess at 1500 pts and up.

He is sadly mainly a anti vehicle character.

I would be inclinded to disagree with oyu on that one. While he is a monster at blowing up nearly every vehicle your enemy has, he isn't really restricted to it. I prefer to use a Vindicare to pop off some high AP weapon toting infantry and not just characters, sergeants, and the like. Personally, I think taking out a lascannon turn one is a little more important than that power weapon sarge considering the damage it can do. There are plenty of ways to kill a character (GK characters can be pretty nasty), or shut it down with a challenge.

In terms of 1000 points, I'd say he becomes more effective simply because of less targets in comparison to higher point values. Personally, I'd use him to take out everything that can instant kill or penetrate terminator/power armor. Also, if the vindicare takes a lot of bullets his way, that's less they are coming at your troops. Just think a little more outside the box with him, and he's very useful. He has a lot more potential than just picking off tanks.

I use him in just about every list, at 1,000pts taking up 15% of your points might be a chunk, but he will take out VIPs like twin said. Taking out Sargent and hoping for a fail pinning or fail 25% losses can be a big power shift, also taking off INV saves of hero units then laying alot of fire on them can make or break the enemy early.

Once i played SWs who had grey hunter units with terms wolf guard with storm shields out front. his shield was the first thing shot off, failed 5++ save then i proceeded to mow the unit down. turn 3, 22 models dead from fire and all his troops gone. this was at 1250pts.

In all if you build an army with enough psycannons you dont need him...but is any plan he always finds a way to pull out the stops and do something good for me.

As I said... "Mainly" an anti vehicle... didnt say he wasnt able to do other things :P

I know he more to offer than anti tank. But for anti personnel I would go for more bodies for those points. 145 pts offers 6 PAGK with a psycannon and points to spare.

Dont get me wrong, Vindicare has been one of my favorite characters through out my years of gaming (since 2nd edition), but I feel like he is over the top at 1000 pts.

Ah I love Vindicare Assassins, they kill EVERYTHING! The only time I won't take one is when I'm facing my mate's Imperial Guard (with pesky Master of Ordnance sitting behing an Aegis Line). When that happens, I recommend a Callidus Assassin instead. You run the risk of losing her the turn she arrives but every weapon firing at the assassin in the enemy lines is a weapon NOT firing at your advancing Grey Knights.

This is something I dont really like :) Building a list built to face certain lists. Opting so to speak.

But as long as both sides are on the same page its all fine and dandy :D

But of course. The most fun scenarios I have played, is when you know your enemy, the mission and some basic terrain layout, and then build your list.

Ordinarily I'd agree with you 100% on the list-optimising front, I do it only grudgingly because the aforementioned friend of mine turtles up something rotten. It is the only concession I make to optimising and even then it's only made because I don't enjoy being pounded relentlessly with AP3 and AP2 templates (which have come about as a result of my mate optimising his list to kill mine).

Well then, both of you are on the same page. That you are allowing optimized lists :D Then it is all fair in my eyes.

I look at it like this...i have taken a VA every list i took to a tourny, and always he has done well...even vs nids he took out a squad of the shooty nids and SA the whole squad in CC...shooting in that case didnt do well for me except for dropping the fancy genestealer guy.

As for the Calliedes assassin i hit a squad that is left out alone and i can take cover after hitting the tgt...on a good day i can kill a 5-7 man SM team and try to get cover after that...one game she managed to kill a whole dev team...then shred and assaulted a 10-man troop choice and killed that off on there turn and then assaulted another 8 man team and contested the obj...not always reliable, but always messes with your enemy's plans.

To quote a man much wiser than myself "When you need it and don't have it, you sing a different tune." I always go for overkill (at least in tournament play) just because it's good to have it in case. Especially against melta spamming armies so you can just pick the little turds out and prep the GK to deliver the final blow a lot more safely. If you're are running with a few friends, don't bother because they may want to punch you, hence I haven't used VA in a very long time.

All I'm saying is the VA has a whole lot more versatility than most people give him credit for. As the fluff reads, one shot delivered at the right time can change the course of history, and it really couldn't be more true.

OP, I say go over the top. It'll agitate people more. My personal preference is taking the VA with Psyrifle dread, but that might be too pricey with only 1000 points :D
