Anvil Industries Sons of Horus Blog

So I want to do a pre heresy army but i'm unwilling to give my left testicle for the parts. Chances are I'll buy some of the cataphractii terminators and a contemptor but it's too much to pay £50 for a single squad of marines. The Mark IV armour is nice but not £50 nice. Similarly whilst I love the background of the heresy (pretty much the only bit I really like) the legions I like all turn traitor and become a bit "meh".

Instead I bought some ebay bits and mixed and matched to what my ideal of a pre heresy legion would look like. Here's what I've got so far.

Compared to a normal marine.

I really like them. alot more than normal marines anyway. Trouble is that they look very big and bulky. They kinda look like only three legions could wear that armour. It's just too bulky for anyone else. I was thinking - Iron Warriors, Imperial Fists or Sons of Horus kinda suit the look.

Any ideas?

If you dont mind bitz hunting on eBay, you could do mkIV and mkVI marines. There plastic mkIV helms (Templar and maybe BA), you could use Assault torsos to represent mkIV and change the kneepad on either mkVI or mkVII legs, mkVI is straight up from the tactical box.

Also, for a little more armour variation you could try Anvil Industries, the have aome pretty cool PA alternatives.

Cheers,

Jono

I do believe those two Marines he built are made from Anvil Industries bits ;)

I like them, but Grotsmasha made some good points about using Mk 6, 5 & 4 bit that are already available in plastic; it's just a matter of rooting around a bit ^_^

I also think they'd look good as Fists, though Death Guard or Sons of Horus would be a good option if you don't want to paint yellow or even Iron Hands in combination with Anvil's awesome bionic selection ;)

They actually are anvil industries models as Razblood suggests. I really like how they look in relation to the future FW terminators.

So the first five brothers are assembled and I've settled on Sons of Horus. Whilst I think they look very Imperial Fist like I wouldn't do a pre heresy blog of a loyal chapter. It somewhat defeats the point to me. I can paint yellow very well but still. Dorn isn't very compelling! Similarly I'd quite like Word Bearers but grey!

Now all I have to do is find a decent shade of green for them. Which will most likely be quite hard! Since I bought individual bits i'm struggling to get interesting poses for bolter marines. Any ideas or arm concepts would be appreciated!

Similarly I've bought a contemptor (willing to buy some FW stuff, just not simple marines!) I'm going to sculpt tassles on their shoulder pads and try to work out how to get some heavy weapons onto the unit with those massive armpads. What do we need to be arming them with nowdays anyway? Haven't played in 6th.
