Dark Heart of Cthonia

OK after getting the book I see my old army did not got it quite right.

I am ignoring the mettalic aspect,I do not like it.

I set about making a new tone for my Sons of Horus.

Started with a thin overcoating of Incubi Darkness over black undercoat.

Makes it black with a blue tint excellent for the deep crevaces instead of using pure black.

I then used USMC tankcrew with a touch of Grey Green to give him a good solid basecoat.

I then make a filter out of AK interactive Blue/Brown wash and used that to change the tone and add dirt streaks to the armor.

I will wait for the transfer sheet to do the markings

Got my Mojo back from the Storm.

Some nice packages are starting to make their way through.

The SoH make heavy use of drop-pods so I whipped up these two badboys.

One I modeled as it was hit by close flak, using a dremmel to bore out the holes.

I used thin styrene strip to model the interior ribs, and triangle cutout glued to the side as pieces of flak.

I used Alclad Jet Exhaust for the reentry soot.

Here are some pictures of the pods in action on the new Cityfight Terrain.

It might be pricey but hot damn these tiles are fine.

I got a tables worth coming but that will be in the terrain thread.

Just finished building the Fellblade.

I made a couple of mistakes but luckily I am really good at hiding them.

I goofed with the track thinking a tred needed shaving off, thing was I had the wrong piece, so I now had a gap.

I made a tred from plasticard and added a hinge on the bottom to help blend.

I also slightly missed getting the topplate flush, leaving a gap behind the demolisher.

Once again plasticard to the rescue.

The kit had minimal warpage most noticeable on the lascannon sponsons.

A hair dryer fixed them to make them workable

As usual FW's directions leave room for improvement but I was able to puzzle my way through it, test fitting the byword here.

The only plastic is the bottom, inner wheelwell, and wheel hubs.

Quite a bit of extra parts the treds and outer wheelwall could really work for an Orks looted battlewagon.

I finished it off with SoH brass and two spare wheels on the rear where two of the tow hooks go.

Unlike my guard tanks the stowage is non-existant as I see Marines bringing just what they need for the battle and with their armor what else do they need?

The next stage of the Fellblade was to spray with two coats AK Worn Effects fluid.

As soon as the fluid dried I sprayed the tank with Tamiya colors based off Field Grey.

I use Black Green for the dark basecoat, then Field Grey as the midtone and a FG/w (white/buff/light sea grey)I use as a highlight.

I always try to use Tamiya when doing vehicles as it is the strongest paint(Lacquer/Acrylic)Hybrid.

As soon as this dried I made light scratches with a paint covered toothpick and uses clean water and a flat brush to rub on the scratches.

After this was complete I gave it a few coats of Semi-Gloss varnish for the Enamel Weathering.

Not primer, but the regular paint(i sometimes call my basecoat a primer layer)

Tamiya is a lacquar/acrylic hybrid which thins in both alcohol and lacquar thinner.

Which is why Tamiya gets all funky when you try to thin with water.

But Tamiya does not react to the thinners and enamels I use.

It is a very sturdy basecoat that is hard to rub off

Here is what I completed today, since last update I added dark brown wash to rivets and crevaces, track wash to the tracks, worked the barrels, painted the crew.

Tomarrow will be the streaking, dustwork and rust.

I have her decaled up with having her served with the 1st Expedition and a veteran of Davin with the green crescent moon.

This would be the command tank of any unit hence the Alpha designation.

The brass etch really make this tank shine,I cannot wait for some new goofy variant so I can paint another like it.

Thanks

Here is the tank with the finished streaking, one last step and that is the road dust.

I did of course had to add one bit of stowage(I can't help myself) a coil of barbed wire. I also added a Hunter-Killer missile.

A very fun kit to paint,I am itching for my next order with the Spartan and Predator.
