Wolf Guard squad leaders in th ed

Hello fellow wolf lords,

I would like to ask you about your opinion on WGs' loadout in 6th edition. Which Special weapons would you give them?

I was and I am going to stay with a mechanised SW, I don't want to change a concept of my army only because footslogging looks better.

My original idea is of a Krakensdoom's company, mounted in Rhinos, supported by Speeders, Predators and Bikes...

I hope you will help me...

Your sincerely Hengrid

If you're going with rhino mounted squads then i'd definitely say load up on the combi-weapons to alleviate the loss of the 2nd special in the squad. With the introduction of challenges the age old powerfist & combi-weapon setup has seen a slight hit in viability not only isn't quite vulnerable in challenges, but grenades are now more reliable at hitting any armour you come into contact with.

For this reason I've been running the following setup for my packs:

Wolf Guard - Wolf Claw, Combi-Plasma/Melta

8 Grey Hunters - Plasma/Melta, WS, MotW, Power Axe

This setup has been working great in my group, you have the WG available for challenges if you run into any powerfist sarges but at the same time have that power axe for terminators and there equivalents, you could always upgrade this to a powerfist if you wanted. Meltabombs on the wolfguard are entirely optional and depends on your gaming group, and at 5 points aren't going to break the bank.

Take this with a grain of salt though.

An option ive been rolling with lately that hasnt seen much discussion is wgpl with TWO combi plasmas. Half the cost of gunslinger, although only 2 rounds of shooting. Thing is though many games thats all the shooting he will get anyway. Goes great in a cheap unit of infiltrating wolf scouts (or rhino pack I suppose) and is a really cool modeling opportunity.
Brom, Thank you. Your idea maybe the answer I've been looking for. I'm more of a fluff player & have been struggling to keep my WGPL different. I had not thought of that idea. Thanks. As for this topic, don't forget Combi Flamers. In 3 games they have saved me a lot of heart ache. Thinking about modeling a second & perhaps a third for various packs. Thank God for magnets.

I have 3 different leaders at the moment.

1x sb/ power sword

1x power axe/ storm shield

And 1x power fist.

Gives my different( well they are pretty much the same units..) units different roles. Power sword is usually my guy that goes with outflankers. Power axe/ss aims at tough hq choices. The other just hopes to swings his axe into some meat.

What about foot slogging terminators in small grey hunter units. I'm trying to work out how to arm 2 terminators for my small squads, at the moment I'm thinking just power sword and storm bolter but I have a few points spare and would love some opinions.....I've included my current list below (thread dedicated to list is HERE).

Rune Priest - 130

Chooser of the Slain, Runic Armour

6 Grey Hunters - 125

1 Plasma, Wolf Standard, Wulfen, Power Axe

6 Grey Hunters - 125

1 Plasma, Wolf Standard, Wulfen, Power Axe

5 Long Fangs - 120

Flamer, 4 Missile Launchers

3 Wolf Guard - 84

1 Power Armour - No upgrades

2 Terminators - Power Sword, Storm Bolter.

Total 584.

Idea is that the termies accompany the hunters, the naked guy is an extra body in the fangs. The runepriest is swappable for wolf priest if its a better option.

Can anyone shed any light onto a better load out for the terminators - would a wolf claw and storm bolter/combi weapon be a better option?

Thanks in advance.

Dan
