Wolf Scout Snipers

I was thinking about getting some Sniper Scouts to add into my army but as I was looking on GW it showed the squad with 4 sniper rifles and a Missile Launcher. That got me wondering whether or not the box came with enough bits to do a full pack with snipers instead. As I haven't ever bought a plastic Scouts box, I was hoping someone here in the Fang could tell me whether or not one box will get me a full pack of snipers.

A tankard of mjod to the first Wolf to help me out!

There are enough sniper rifles to do all 5

Excellent! *passes a tankard of mjod to Redbeard* I may pick those up Monday then! If I do I'll probably snag another Grey Hunter box as well for the bitz and the extra wolves.

Hmm I may well do that if Off The Wall has two boxes. They're $25 according to the GW site so that's within my limit. Hell, if I have enough I might get two Sniper and one regular Scout boxes. I've got plenty of Wolf bitz from my boxes and I can always leave a few as the default Scout heads. Looks like this year's King Richards Faire trip is gonna be cancelled due to craptastic weather so I gotta spend that money somewhere! :)
i have used a man 10 sniper scout pack against my friends Gray knights and found them to be effective at keeping his troops going where i wanted them to go well pinning down other parts of his army. also their very effective with their sniper riffles due to the fact there BS 4 not 3 like normal marine scouts.

Our Elites slots are crowded with goodness, but I'm actually starting to think Wolf Scout Snipers might be a viable alternative. OBEL Scouts not being able to charge when they turn up limits their utility a bit more than before, and the ability to pin with 9-10 rending 4+ shots and the chance of picking off a heavy or special weapon or squad leader (less the Look Out, Sir) is nothing to snort at when you're firing at BS 4. Their very presence forward of your deployment can shift the enemy's troop deployment and approach, if properly placed and supported.

I do think the missile launcher is the right choice for the squad support weapon. Heavy bolters are nice, but the ability to frag a lightly armored squad one turn and then plink away at more heavily armed infantry with the sniper guns hoping to hit a weak spot and lob a krak missile the next turn is a lot more versatile than the extra dakka, in my book.

Our wolf snipers did get a slight boost in 6th, so more bang for the same buck.

You can move and still get a snap shot off hitting on 6s.

If you hit with any shot including snap shots and overwatch you still benefit from the precision shot special rule.

The unit suffering wounds from sniper fire must make a pinning test for every wound suffered by the unit which may result in multiple leadership tests in one round of shooting.

Good luck, let us know who they work for you Bran.

Alright, the Scouts did well! I plunked them down in a wood (infested by Razorwings no less) and proceded to snipe away for most of the game. They claimed three Retributors, a Seraphim (Pinning said Seraphim) and at the end of the game running back to defend the objective as well as ganking the Seraphim Sister Superior who was gonna kill my ally's awesome Defiler. Unfortunately Off the Wall had no scouts so I snagged a box of Ironguts for my Ogres...

Remember that we can actually have THE most tactical scout unit of snipers ever.

First switch out the bolt pistols for Bolters for free. (You can even add in a melta gun!)

Then switch out your CCW for Snipers and pay the points for it.

Now you have a 5 man 100pts sniper unit that can be mobile and use Bolter fire while moving and for those snapshots when beeing charged while still having sniper rifles at BS 4.

Infiltrating these guys can even take out a tank before taking a sniper position.

Unfortunatly we dont have stealth rule so sniping from buildings seem to be the way to go.

Our snipers with bolters feels like the way Spec Ops units utilise their mobile snipers while the regular scout sniper is more army style but in groups.

You, kind sir, are a scholar and a gentleman. Thanks a lot for sharing! Definitely gonna try this out. :)

This is often how I run mine, although I've considered the utility of a Missile Launcher instead of the Meltagun.

And don't forget - 2 models can still purchase Plasma Pistols or Power Weapons, and 1 model can still have Mark of the Wulfen; for that added CC capability.

Folks, I have been following this for awhile & gotta say thanks. There has been a couple of ideas here that I will have to try out myself. Since 6th came out, my beloved Wolf Scous have taken a back seat to other Elite Choices but I am goig to try some the ideas here, probably the Tactical one first.
