Legio Angelis Mortis

Recommended Posts

I have started my own successor chapter of Blood Angels called Legio Angelis Mortis (or the Legion of the Angels of Death). It is common knowledge that because of the flawed geneseed all Blood Angels will suffer the Black Rage eventually. Because of this non-denied outcome the battle brothers of Legio Angelis Mortis have taken to wear the black armor of the Death Company and they await the biting blade of Astorath the Grim's Executioner's Axe. Every model in my army will don the black armor from Dante to the lowly scout even all vehicles, all save the Sanguinary Priests and Sanguinary Novitates in the honor guard which will wear the dark blood red armor to represent Sanguinius' blood and the purest white robe to show that they are the salvation of the chapter.

Now comes my delima I was wondering how to differetiate the units. At first I thought painting the bottom part of the base with red for the real Death Company. But thinking on it perhaps the painting helmet theme for different units. ie: red for tachs, yelow for assault marines, blue for devistators and gold for veterans or maybe just a stripe of the appropriate color. Saving full gold for HQ. Started painting this army last week and need some help. Once I get some painted up will post pics. I am working on HQs right now I am working on Astorath and Mephiston.

Also in the works is several conversions including: Sanguinius (since I found the rules for playing primarchs), Sanguinor (because I loathe the model), Mephiston (for same reason), several chaplains/reclusiarchs, and libraians. I have been working on the Sanguinary Priesthood. 4 Sanguinary Novitates, 2 with jump packs 2 without. 12 Sanguinary priest in power armor, 3 with power sword and jump packs, 3 with power swords, 3 with chainsword and jump packs and 3 with chainsword without jumps. 3 terminator Priest. 6 Priest on bikes, 3 with power sword and 3 without. And finally Brother Corbulo. So my total number of Priests is 26 priests so I can cover every eventuallity. I have the novitates, 6 priest in power armor, 1 termie priest and Brother Corbulo. Shall post some pics when I can. But this is going to be a major undertaking. What do yall think?

My suggestion when it comes to markings is using a small stripe on the helmet. As you want your whole army to be black.

Or colour the shoulder trims.

My Blood angels successor chapter is Dark Crimson red (well Khorne red to be honest)

My tacticals have a brighter red on the shoulder trim, and to mark sergeants and squad leaders I fill the shoulder pads with black.

My conversion of Brother Corbolo wanted to make him look like a 105 point model and look like the Sanguinary High Priest.

Wow. Where did you find that stained glass window?

Also (to remain helpful), might I advise you to add another layer red on your Corbulo? The undercoat seems to still be visible, brother.

Wow no comments I must really suck.

Now, now. Don't get like that - sometimes some threads don't get a response for more than a day. In fact, I was replying as you posted, brother. :)

I did that on purpose wanted them to have a dark look to them. The priests do no don the black armor of their brothers but I still wanted them as dark a red as I could.

Dont remember where I found it but I thought it was cool so I posted it.

I really need a magnifier I did not realize how sloppy my high lights are. My utmost apologies. As soon as I can get a magnifier I will clean up those highlights.

LOL I paint with several magnifiers and even then I have much room to improve. I slave hunched over my desk for hours on a model and then present it to he hubby or son for comment, they look at said

model and say "thats nice" (not noticing the hand painted litanies/scrollwork etc) or worse "you missed this or got paint on that". My fav though is noticing a "glaring error" that eats at your brain and no one

else even notices. With that said....Very nice start. I often like to use shoulderpads or their trim to denote different units and I reserve different color helmets for veterans or characters. I like how you've

used the blue on several characters, is that a theme for the army? Is that scrolls off the back of Astorath I see? I've not got the model and was just wondering?

PS. I remembered to put spaces in my posts this time :)

The models that you refer to that have blue on their helmets are librarians traditionally they are in blue armor because librarians originated on Ultramar. I did not want to paint them all blue so I just did their helmets. The whole color scheme is black armor with red accents. And yes those are scrolls behind Astorath the Sanguinor also have those scrolls. If you go to the GW site and look under Blood Angels Death Company you will see my color scheme.

You have been busy! You have the basics down but as you say the highlights are a bit thick, the best remedy is to re-apply the base colour slightly to make them a bit thinner near the edges. The best thing you can do (even though it is something I am guilty of!) is to thin your paints down which makes them more controllable and appear less 'thick'. As for your question of differentiating unit types, what about knee pads? It won't break up the wall of black too much yet give you the desired effect :)
